This was the original 1740‘s Unabridged Edition.
Unbelievably dull and stiff. Painful to read.

â€¢ Likes: The Monkey Staff and talking Parrots, The dream Sequences with the handsome prince, the dull but kind Beast.

This book continues on after the wedding to talk about the princes/queens backstory as well as the Fairies backstory

This story at its heart is about arranged marriage. Maybe it‘s better read in French?

Beauty and the Beast is perhaps my favorite fairy tale. This rendition certainly contains a great many more details than the rest. Here we have the back story to the beast, beauty, and the parentage of both. Also some reassuring explanation as to why Cocteau provided Belle with brothers but no modern authors have.
