Beyond the Tower | JacQueline Vaughn Roe

This was my pick for #FairytaleReadingChallenge #Rapunzel

It‘s the first in a series and follows Rapunzel out in the world after being thrown out of her tower for betraying the witch.

The background to the story is the familiar tale of Rapunzel, and then this follows her trying to find her place in the world and get over her love, coming across lots of other fairytales (like donkeyskin, the emperors new clothes, and Bluebeard!)

Raised in the high walled garden of her mother, Gothel, Rapunzel has led a very sheltered life. What happens when she learns the truth of what is outside the wall? Wild, Wild West shenanigans. Fairy tale style.

This was pretty darn adorable. Middle grade, so a quick read, and pretty simple art, but with fun characters, an interesting twist, clever fairy tale cameos, & a VERY proactive princess. Will definitely be picking up the sequel! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Have I mentioned how much I love the #FairytaleReadingChallenge and how much I love this book. #Mulan was March, but I wanted to drag this book for a long time. The battle scenes were perfect. The characters were brilliant in tricking the villain. Loved this book. @Charityann

My last book for April was my second book for April‘s Cinderella #FairyTaleReadingChallenge. I‘m glad I finally started this series! I love the mythology and I liked the first installment even more than I thought I would. Looking forward to May‘s challenges! @Charityann

#BookReport x2 weeks since I was sick last weekend - the windowsill is starting to look a little more manageable as I spent much of my recovery time reading!! I also finished several chapter-a-day reads (The Other Bennet Sister, North & South, London Under). I had three Cinderella retellings (besides Cinder) for the #fairytalereadingchallenge this month, but the two I started didn't speak to me. Despite enjoying the Waterfire Saga by Jennifer ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Donnelly, Stepsister just wasn't speaking to me. And The Cinderella Deal... wow, the MC was just way too Quirky!!(TM) for me to handle. I started the tagged book yesterday - it's a long-lost #LMPBC book that appeared and since the round is already long-over, the owner of this book told me I could take my time and still read it if I wanted to haha It's good so far, but it's weird because the two POV voices sound a LOT a like. Starting ⬇ 1mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to get mildly concerned as to what the widowsill will look like when I add in May's books!! 😂

vlwelser That might be my least favorite Donnelly. She seems to have gotten a book contract with Disney. I hope she goes back to her original stuff soon. 1mo

Cinfhen Im always kind of relieved when a book “isn‘t speaking to me” 😉 1mo
Cinfhen Glad you‘re feeling better xx 1mo
TheAromaofBooks @vlwelser - I'm definitely planning to try another book of hers sometime because I did enjoy the Waterfire books. I can't even put my finger on why I didn't care for this one, it just didn't click with me!! 1mo
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - Thank you!! It's hard to believe it was just a week ago that I couldn't even think about food! 😂 I'm back to eating like a horse now, so everything is good haha And yes, sometimes it's nice to get an entire book (or series!) off the TBR just because it “isn't right“ 😁 1mo

I think this book has been on my TBR since it first was published in 2012 haha Worth the wait - creative and fun with likable characters. I did feel like the place cyborgs had in society wasn't very well explained, but on the whole I really enjoyed this one. And since it's been on my list ten years, I don't have to wait for the rest of the series! Bought all the others on Pango so they should be here next week!!

Someone gifted this one to me ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) for the #LitsyLoveWinterSwap back in 2019, but I didn't write down who... but thank you!! 😁

Fun romcom with some quirky nods to the Cinderella fairy tale. I loved the body positivity and the strong (and so lovable) female heroine. I was rooting for her the whole time. The insights into the worlds of fashion and reality tv were fascinating. The ending was a bit different than I expected, which was a refreshing surprise.

BookBosomed1 I didn‘t expect to like this book as much as I did! 1mo
julieclair @BookBosomed1 Neither did I! That‘s why I love reading challenges. They encourage me to read books I wouldn‘t normally pick up. 1mo

Love revisiting my old friends (literature) from my childhood. My Nanny read Charles Perrault to me at a very young age. This version had Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. #ChildrensClassicChallenge2022 @TheBookHippie

mandarchy I get funny looks from my students when I say, "back to work Cinderella". I say it to any student despite gender because she worked hard and we can all measure up. ? 2mo
