so-soThis was...okay. High marks for the diversity of characters and stories included. Other than that, I found myself bored reading many of these stories, and I feel like bored is the last thing I should feel reading this 😆. Like others, I really enjoyed Brandon Taylor‘s and Carmen Maria Machado‘s stories. March #Bookspin complete
pickThis collection of stories is all over the map. Some are flat out erotica and some are fiction in which one or more characters are kinky (which may or may not have anything to do with the plot), and some are...well, what we used to call “artsy-fartsy shocky-wocky” stories (where the kinky elements feel...not gratuitous but maybe invested with more significance than they warrant).
pickI rarely read short stories, and less likely to read an anthology. But I was drawn to this, seeing the list of authors and it‘s mission. “Wouldn‘t it be wonderful, R.O. thought, if stories like these could live together in one book, in the kind of book that could sit on artists‘ residencies‘ library shelves?”
Like most collections, its a mixed bag, some better than others. But it‘s worth picking up for Brandon Taylor‘s “Oh,Youth” alone. So good!
