This is why books are the best! I was able to travel around Russia to all of the border countries from the comfort and safety of my home. Fascinating, eye-opening and a pleasure to read.

Megabooks Oooo! Stacked! I‘m all about armchair travel. 2y
Megabooks And I loved Sovietstan! 2y
jlhammar @Megabooks I'm definitely adding Sovietstan to my TBR. And she's got this one coming out early next year 2y

This is the book I most want to read for traveling through Russia in June with #foodandlit but- realistically I‘m not sure of having time - it‘s a chunkster! Are there any books similar or nonfiction about Russia that will be similar? I‘m still shaking off vestiges of the Cold War so want something that will help me embrace the country- (our month in Viet Nam was a similar beginning)
Any thoughts litten friends? My other option is YA or MG

Bookwormjillk Ohhhh that looks good. I‘m going to add it to my list too, but with you on probably not for June. The other option I have is equally chunky. 4y
Chrissyreadit @Bookwormjillk I added it to my wishlist but also am not sure June would be enough time- but it sounds like a book I would enjoy. I just found a small digestible one I ordered used- 4y
Bookwormjillk @chrissyreadit I put that on hold too! Plus there's A Gentleman In Moscow which I've tried to read three times but never finished. 4y

Bookwormjillk @chrissyreadit I just talked with my best book buddy at work and she suggested Stalin's Daughter by Rosemary Sullivan and Mud and Stars by Sara Wheeler. 4y
Butterfinger I'm just not much help this month. Judith Pella and Michael??? team wrote a series about building a railroad in Russia in the late 1800s. It's a Christian fiction though. I read it twenty years ago and remembered loving it. What about a ya nonfiction on Anastasia? I think I have one in my class library. 4y
Butterfinger The Crown and the Crucible 4y
Butterfinger I want to read this with Chaya. 4y
Chrissyreadit @Butterfinger I‘m leaning toward Angel on The Square, but if Mastering The Art of Soviet Cooking is manageable I may go with a grown up book. 4y

My last review for the October #BookSpinBingo

How is it to live next door to Russia? To have been a part of it? How does Russia affect the lives of its neighbours? Fatland tries to find answers to these and many more questions, without judging the people she meets and with open ears, eyes and heart.

@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Sounds intriguing!! 4y
Jari-chan @TheAromaofBooks It really is! 4y
