It‘s a nope from me. The concept of humanity living in virtual worlds to escape the reality brought on by climate change is interesting, but nothing really happened in the book and the ending was disappointing.

I‘ve only read #Erebos by this popular German author ✍️ so far, and I didn‘t like that book either 😬.

I need to add some thoughts. I‘ll put them in the comments marked as spoiler so that the experience for those who want to read the book, especially for @Moony because I do know she‘s eagerly waiting to start this book, isn‘t ruined.

Mooney, it would be nice if you‘d share your view with me after you read it.

Buechersuechtling At first I thought the storyline is stolen from Suzanne Collins' “Mockingjay”. Well, not quite. Instead I felt like I landed in a drab crossing between “Ready Payer One" and the "Matrix"-trilogy. Just that it all wasn't as exciting and gripping as those two have been for me. Old wine in new wineskins. ??‍♀️ 3y
RamsFan1963 Old wine in new wineskins 🤣🤣🤣 I'm definitely stealing that expression for future reviews. 3y
Buechersuechtling @RamsFan1963 I‘m glad I could help. 😄 3y
Moony Natürlich! Aber es kann wirklich noch laaange dauern 😂 3y

Mehso-so

I can‘t say why but from page 200 on, the story got boring and lengthy too me. It started interesting but I got bored that Jana doesn‘t progress much during her trips. It was just that: Tripping. – Boring. And then, when she reaches [spoiler] the way the story will go was all too clear. I wasn‘t interested in the how anymore, only in the why. The denouement was okay but predictable.

A non-remarkable, solid read. 🤷🏽‍♀️

To the pro-side of my good morning, there‘s a con-side, too:

I woke up with pad pain. “Usually” that‘s kinesalgia but today this ain‘t fitting. Today it‘s muscle pain. 🙄 So annoying. But then I spotted the conversation @julesG has under her post … Maybe I should try this, too. 🤔

julesG Give it a try. 3y
julesG Hope you're feeling better soon. 3y
Buechersuechtling @julesG Yes, I will try to try it tomorrow. 🤪 I hope you also will feel better soon. On my part, I assume my medical condition is related to Winter and the low, although not really winterly temperatures. If I‘m correct, only summer will show. 3y
julesG My condition is permanent. It's part of having MS for me. Winter, low temperatures that is, makes it worse. So I get where you're at. I feel best at temperatures around 22-26°C. Drinking more water has helped a bit, but I haven't been doing it long enough and consistently enough to say it's the "cure". 3y
Buechersuechtling @julesG My cerebral palsy is permanent, too, but I very much hope that this kind of “winter depression” won‘t get worse and worse every year from now on. It‘s so annoying and debilitating. 🙄 I‘m not quite sure how to include drinking so much in my working days because of the need to see the loo a lot. Maybe I‘ll experiment with the weekends first. 3y

Hey Littens,
it‘s Saturday morning here. That‘s why I wish you all happy weekend-reading. 🙂

I‘m proud of and happy with myself because my efforts of forcing my sleep pattern into being workday-suitable again slowly seem to be successful. I had myself waking up ~3 hours ago (in the pure darkness 🌑) and am chatting 💬 and reading since then.

Sadly, this book does everything right but nevertheless can‘t hold my interest too well. 😟 @Moony

Moony Oh that's sad 3y
Buechersuechtling @Moony Yes, I was disappointed. Even though I don‘t know if of me, of the story or of the author. 3y

My plan for baking this: https://bit.ly/2MLnBXo is postponed to Monday … I‘m afraid the flour I have won‘t last for both: “korean pancakes” tomorrow And 🫒🍞 today. (The funny thing is: I know that I need to get new flour but buying it just didn‘t fit into this week‘s shopping because 1 kg is always so heavy for me to carry along with other 2-3 kg. You see, where that gets me. 😉)

Anyway.
Oh well, then I‘ll keep on reading. That‘s no punishment.

Jari-chan I love this kind of bread 😍 Have fun baking! 3y

Oh dear, I am so influenceable

The first sentence of the paragraph says:

“As I enter the city, I immediately see a street vendor selling olive breads.“ (p. 116)

Please excuse me, as soon as I will have finished this chapter I need to go to the kitchen and bake myself an olive bread for the weekend.

This happens fairly often, I read about food in my current book and immediately think: “Oh, I need to go and try making this at home.” ⬇️

Buechersuechtling (Continued): And that I‘m thinking that now really has nothing to do with me being hungry or not hungry. At the moment, I am definitely not hungry, because I had lunch not long ago. But seems, my mind doesn‘t care. It‘s like Pavlovian conditioning: My mind then says to me: “Oh, an interesting, not too complicated meal, go and try cooking it. As soon as possible. Which means: Now!!” (edited) 3y
charl08 Mmm bread.😍 3y

Weekend!
Finally!

I had an appointment today that abruptly was postponed for 3 hours. At first, I didn‘t really know what to do, because there were reasons for which I couldn‘t take the time for reading, but then I found a few odds and ends to dispatch.

And now I am doubly proud.

1) Of the things I quite unexpectedly got done and
2) For time with my book and the fact that a whole long weekend still lies peacefully displayed in front of me.

Thank you so much @AnneCecilie for flushing this into my feed. And even more thanks to @kimmypete1 , @Eggbeater and @MidnightBookGirl for hosting #AnyWayYouReadathon. I will happily participate because who knows when I will have the next opportunity to peacefully join a readathon I‘m 2021, once work will have begun next week❓(No, I‘m not joking.)

Goals:
? Finish “Cryptos”

? Finish “Viva la Vagina”
? Finish „Eine vorläufige Theorie der Liebe“

kimmypete1 Thanks for joining! Hopefully once work starts you can still find some time to read (it‘s a stress reliever!). 3y

Please excuse the crappy photo.

“?? Two weeks here, and my IQ would drop by ten points. Perhaps this would be quite pleasant, middle-wise people are often more balanced.” (p. 83)

„?? Zwei Wochen hier, und mein IQ würde um zehn Punkte sinken. Wäre vielleicht ganz angenehm, mttelkluge Leute sind oft ausgeglichener.“ (Seite 83)

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Honestly, I often catch myself thinking exactly this when I‘m at work.

Come-read-with-me 🤣🤣 3y

How convenient that I was allowed to download this one again after I didn‘t manage to finish it in time in late December.

After saying that I need a pause from Brett Easton Ellis, it‘s nice that my library/my e-book reader seem to remember where I stopped reading 3 weeks ago. 👍🏼

Nothing against Ellis, but I am quite looking forward to a book that I know has a “story”. 🙊

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs

1️⃣ • “?? Less than Zero” (?) • „?? Viva la Vagina“ (?) • „?? Eine vorläufige Theorie der Liebe“ (?)

2️⃣ • „?? Cryptos“ • ??/?? „Queenie“

3️⃣ All titles ??.
• „Frauen, die lesen, sind gefährlich“
• „Mein linker Fuß“
• „Der Ernährungskompass“
• „Anton will seine Ruhe“
• „Ziemlich beste Freunde“

(No. 3 was easier than I thought. I decided to not only take titles that describe me but also contents. ?)

Enchanted_Bibliophile Thanks for the tag 😁 3y
Eggs The only German 🇩🇪 I know is ich bin Amerikaner, and haben-sie gemusesuppa (sp.??) 😊😊 3y
Buechersuechtling @Eggs Oh. 🙊 I thought you were British … 😇 3y

Buechersuechtling @Eggs And in case you want to improve your German: „Ich bin Amerikanerin.“ I mean, you‘re a female, aren‘t you? „Amerikaner“ = male, „Amerikanerin“ = female 3y
Buechersuechtling @Eggs And I never thought that „Gemüsesuppe“ would be a word to remember. ? But I always think it‘s funny what sticks in one‘s mind of the language when doesn‘t speak (properly). For example, I tried to learn Swedish when I was younger. But the only word I do remember is that for teeth. ?? “tänderna”. ? (edited) 3y
Eggs 😂😂 yes! Well I took 1 college German course 47 years ago so....! I did speak pretty good French for several years (lived in northern US) and been in the South US for 40 years so I understand some Spanish now. I love language! @Buechersuechtling 3y
Buechersuechtling @Eggs Oh yes, 24 years ago my French was fluent. Something my Spanish never was. Back then , I also loved languages and it was quite easy for me to learn vocabularies and intuitively use it correctly. But by now, I am very well aware that learning new things isn‘t the no-brainier anymore it once was. 3y
Eggs True. Because I studied origins of language during the 1970s, it helped illuminate for me the interconnectedness of language, tense, and word derivation. It forever changed my understanding of words/writing. Fascinating @Buechersuechtling 3y
Buechersuechtling @Eggs How cool is that❓😯 Now I want to study this, too. 3y
Eggs @Buechersuechtling I‘m sure you‘d love it 😊 3y

Okay, it‘s official. 🤓 Needed to let “Cryptos” go back to the library without being through. Put it on hold again.

23th January will be my next try. 😇

Depending on where you live accept my belated Merry Christmas. 🎄
But in Germany the day after Christmas is a Christmas Holiday, too. 😊

I‘m also including Season‘s Greetings to all that celebrate other Holidays than Christmas.

May you all have comfy, unwinding, happy days. 👋🏼

Ambiguous to say, but I “love” the idea of those “climate points” Poznanski is introducing. You got 250 of them per month and everything you do costs climate points. Breathing, eating, everything.

Yes, this forces you to be on a strict diet, even the more if you‘re not constantly living in virtual reality. Tough.
But in my naive mind, I think, it would nowadays do us in First World good to really be confronted with how much resources we consume.

334 pages, 3 days lending period left, chapter 2 – and I‘m already as hooked as I was when I read „Erebos“.

At first glance, it reminds me of “Ready Player One”. Plus: The logo reminds me of “Mockingjay”, but since I liked those, I don‘t really care.

Let the #ReadingHurry continue.

Yes, I know, it‘s been awhile since I put that on hold in my online library, but guys, does anyone have any idea why at the moment it‘s one of those times of year where holes drop in like snowflakes❓🤔
I mean, it‘s still the beginning of Advent and not yet festive season. Where do all the people suddenly take all the time to read all the books they obviously couldn‘t manage to read during the last 3-6 months❓😯
