Just started this cracking yarn! Perfect for when you want to read about someone else‘s uncomfortable adventures while you‘re curled up cozy ☕️🧦📖
I think audiobooks are going to get me out of my reading slump. I love all the books Jonathan Stroud writes!
This is the last book by Jonathan Stroud I'll ever read. I'm done with him. For good this time. If it wasn't for a Buddy Read with my friend, I would've DNF this book right at the beginning. There's a huge difference between a strong female lead and an egocentric brat. The world building is flat and oversimplyfied. The plot could've been good, but one has to care about the MCs to enjoy it, and I couldn't care less ⬇
A weak Pick. I enjoyed this but it is not without flaws. Scarlett is a total Mary Sue - at 18 she is able to overpower every full grown man she meets, is endlessly resourceful, resilient to pain & always comes out on top (eyeroll) She also physically bullies Albert when she first meets him (not cool) There is also a lot of killing & the attitude towards violence is somewhat casual which makes it seem gratuitous. This one is up next. Love this cover, reminds me a bit of Peter Pan in Scarlet ... I guess when that word's in the title the cover is always going to be red!
Jonathan Stroud‘s YA post-apocalyptic fantasy thriller (the first in a new series) sets up solid character and world-building against an otherwise straightforward chase plot with enough action and brutal death to hold my attention despite the twists being a little obvious and the antagonists a little two dimensional. That said the unresolved mysteries and hints at a wider arc mean that I will definitely read the sequel.
Fast-paced adventure in a Wild West-style, post apocalyptic Britain with bank robbers, monsters, and all manner of exciting capers. It might be aimed at young teens and tweens but it is an exciting read for us older folks too.

I'm intrigued.
So far, Jonathan Stroud hasn't disappointed.
