Love Poems | 
so-soI was surprised to find I quite enjoyed the Robert Burns selections. I liked several of the selections, in fact. Some of the poets on the back end seemed to be putting in airs in their language which put me off immediately.

GingerAntics There were a couple of poems that literally waxed poetic about how when women say no, they really mean yes. Those turned me off entirely. I get that this book was published in 2016, but was that really acceptable in 2016? This book needs some serious updating for the 21st century. E E Cummings was way better. TrishB I‘m assuming it‘s not the publication time but the fact they won‘t criticise the ‘establishment‘ poets. My daughter did the metaphysical poets at A level and said they were a bunch of pervy old men trying to get young girls into bed. Her words. She‘s not wrong. 3y
GingerAntics @TrishB that‘s probably more accurate. Hunt and Coleridge came off like privileged frat boys to me. I was planning to get two other collections of poetry similar to this one from B&N, but I‘m thinking I may skip them now. I‘m not sure. 3y

Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics now I want to read some poetry just to identify the poets who were respectful of women. I think the establishment can be shook. I suspect Sappho does not have poems that say no means yes. I do not think Edgar Allen Poe does either but now I want to check. @CBee any thoughts? 3y

GingerAntics @TrishB why should she fail for making an obvious observation? That seems ridiculous. I could see saying “don‘t make that the whole paper” but sure, put that in the conclusion or drop it into the end of the analysis paragraph. Come on. 🙄 I hate when professors tell students how to interpret stuff. Ugh. 3y

GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit Poe didn‘t seem to be that way. It was really just Hunt and Coleridge. I think it was Poe who had a guy sleeping in a grave with his beloved at night, so apparently he‘s cool with following his woman. 3y
