I picked up this book because everyone said it was like Bridgerton….I honestly don‘t know how to feel about it. I‘m sure we were meant to hate Frances, and believe me, I did.

Almost bailed on this but I wasted a B & N audiobook credit on it so I was determined to finish. Horrible people doing horrible things, including sexual assault. Betty was the only character I cared about. ⬇️

An endlessly entertaining feminist Regency coming-of-age story with a dash of queer secondary characters, as well as Black and South Asian characters. The tagline of Mean Girls meets Jane Austen is pretty on point. Croucher is really great at creating flawed characters making a lot of mistakes who you sympathize with nevertheless, as well as people who you know are no good but who just ooze charisma. Fantastic audiobook narration!

This is so witty and funny. Some people say Alexis Hall is today's queer Jane Austen, but for me it's Lex Croucher. I think they are hilarious. Great #audiobook narration in this one too!

I'm not entirely sure what this book was. It wasn't historical. It's supposed to be set in Regency England but it was more a modern book with the veneer of Regency. It was odd.

It's not a bad book. I really enjoyed the writing and the humour. It just didn't work for me.

Good. A parody of a Regency novel but the love the author has for the original shines through. If you love Jane Austen or The Brontë's then this is perfect for you. It has all the best themes of a Regency novel but with a modern twist.

I enjoyed this book, it's got wild parties, lots of drinking and swearing in this Regency book.

Many people describe this as Mean Girls meets Jane Austen and that is an apt description. The main character made some terrible choices but was still likeable and had real growth. The banter between her and the love interest made me smile. One friend was adorably awkward and I wanted to hug her. I highly recommend the audiobook which was narrated by the actress who plays Prudence Featherington on Bridgerton.

“It seemed unwise to her that he had chosen to insult her when she was still holding a weapon in her hand, especially a weapon she had just proven she was far more adept than him at using – but with regret, she had not shot him.”

This was between a pick and a so-so for me. The last third picked up pace and it became more interesting as time went on, but I‘m not a big fan of regency era lit. However, the romance was sweet and I loved how tough and brave Georgiana was. A great feminist rom-com that touches on deeper issues at its core.

Trying to brighten this dreary overcast day with a good book and iced tea.

Historical romance isn‘t my go-to genre, but this one sounded too fun to pass up! It really is a Regency-era version of Mean Girls in a lot of ways. With a (surprisingly!) diverse cast & some moments where it‘s easy to hate the heroine, the latte half of the book flies by! Some anachronistic turns of phrase are sure to nettle purists, but this reads like a modern take on the genre & on the whole, is a lot of fun! Happy Birthday Week to this book!

This book is so much fun, but not without its messages. A really enjoyable Regency-era Mean Girls.

This was an absolute hoot! It‘s like Jane Austen wrote Skins - it has all the delight and wit of a Regency setting but with far more drink, drugs, and bad behaviour than Jane Austen would ever dared to write about. Not one for historical purists and it does tackle some thorny issues, but I loved it. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
