11 posts | 7 read | 7 to read
R.L. Stine's Fear Street series is back, and in The Dead Boyfriend, he tells the frightening tale of teenage love - and how it can go terribly, murderously wrong.Caitlin has never had a real boyfriend before. When she starts seeing Colin, she throws herself into the relationship with fervor. She ignores her friends who warn her that Colin may be a phony and that she is taking the whole thing too seriously. Caitlin is smitten. She doesn't care if she loses her friends. All she wants is Colin. When Caitlin approaches Colin with another girl, she completely loses it. She snaps. Everything goes red. When she comes back to her senses, she realizes that Colin is dead - and she has killed him. But if Colin is dead, how is he staring at her across a crowded party? Terrifying from the first page to the last, The Dead Boyfriend is a heart-racing young adult novel from the master of teen screams himself.

#NetGalley #Audiobook

Wow! This took me right back to middle school when I'd stay up lately reading the newest Fear Street book from my school library.

I loved revisiting Fear Street and this felt like a fresh spin on the series while keeping all the wonderful things from the original. And I absolutely loved the ending.

I think fans new and old will enjoy this one.

Book one down for the #screamathon — I‘ve always loved Fear Street books, and thanks to @AprilMae I finally have some of the recent reboots of Fear Street. This gets a pick for nostalgia‘s sake. It can be read pretty quickly. It was a little out there, but with lots of twists in true R.L. Stine fashion. 3.5⭐️

alisiakae Wait...there are recent reboots? I had no idea!! I 🖤 Fear Street when I was a kid! 5y
JenlovesJT47 @4thhouseontheleft yes! At least five so far that I know of. 5y
alisiakae This will date me, but I have fond memories of going in to B Dalton at my local mall (which eerily resembles Stranger Thing‘s StarCourt Mall!) to buy Fear Street books. Before I moved on to Tom Clancy, John Grisham and Dean Koontz. 😂 (edited) 5y
JenlovesJT47 @4thhouseontheleft me too! I loved going to Waldenbooks and buying Sweet Valley books 🤓 would save my money when I was a kid! 5y

Mehso-so

R.L. Stine reminds me of my childhood. I thought this book was OK. I had a pretty good idea where this book was going and was a little disappointed that is what happened. I feel like it was missing the R.L.Stine-ness I have such nastalgia for.

I'm going to be a thousand years old and still loving Fear Street books because that's me. This book was like the rest of the relaunched Fear street books: silly, campy, and a little spooky. Even if some of the writing bugged me, I appreciate this for what it is: a fun, scary movie packed into book form. RL Stine (and Ann M. Martin) is a huge reason why I'm such a voracious reader today, so I'm all for his books. Always.
