This is such a a lovely and interesting biography! Light on the personal details of the life of Frances Hodgson Burnett but heavy on her relationship with the gardens she tended throughout her life, in England, New York, and Bermuda. Naturally it also focuses quite a bit on The Secret Garden and includes three other examples of her "garden writing" that were such a treat to read. Fellow Mary Lennox girls, you should definitely pick this one up!

To say I came away from this book with many ideas for my garden would be an understatement. The hard part will be narrowing down what will fit in our yard!

AnnCrystal Oh true!! In our case, we seemingly want to fill our garden with every plant there is LOL... we've actually began refreshing our garden. Reimagining our true essentials for.what our garden needs to grow... 8mo
Darklunarose @AnnCrystal or as my daughter says “I want to grow all the things”. It‘s the same here, want everything we can! A friend of mine picked up an arctotis for the garden today.. 8mo
AnnCrystal @Darklunarose oh, those are so pretty 🤩. We're working on transforming our garden with native plants, and foods (for both humans and garden critters). It is terribly tempting to stray from that goal every time we venture into a garden nursery LOL. Too sweet that both you and your daughter love the garden 💕🌱. 8mo

Darklunarose @AnnCrystal garden centres are dangerous I tell you! They will send you right off the garden path of your plans! My mother was a gardener as was her grandpa. It kind of runs in the family. We have a massive veggie garden and it will intersperse with the flowers as well! 8mo
AnnCrystal @Darklunarose ❤️💕🌱😍 I love that, how wonderful 😊. My mom learned (self taught) herself, then taught me, now we continue to learn together 😊🌱👍. (edited) 8mo

He is 5 months now and getting bigger and more adventurous each day (read that as finding trouble around the house). It‘s been a beautiful day in Adelaide for some walking and sitting by a window to read and dream of what I can plant in the garden

tpixie He‘s gorgeous with beautiful markings! Good thing, with all that mischief! 8mo

There has been so little time to read of late here. We seem to be running from one thing to another and when I‘m home I‘m so tired I end up napping! Due to that a few books I was reading have had to go back to the library unfinished so now I‘m waiting for them to come back! Tonight I‘m going to curl up and read some of this.

Absolutely delightful! I learned some fascinating facts about Frances Hodgson Burnett. The book also has lots of lovely pictures: photos of Burnett‘s life & her gardens, various illustrations from different editions of “The Secret Garden” and even some drawings/paintings of flowers. Will be appealing to anyone who loves flowers, gardens, and of course, “The Secret Garden!” Will have to read more by this author…
