Had a rare day off work and we went up to Alnwick.
Visited the gardens including the poison garden, had some food, and went to barter books for a browse and some icecream!
Picked these 2 up at the garden gift shop ☺️
I won't be rating this book as I am bailing at around 20%.
This subject should be riveting but I'm finding excuses not to return to reading it. I can't quite put my finger on what it is but it's not working for me so moving on.
Catching up on missed daily words whilst I was feeling unwell.
Day 17 for #ScarathlonDailyPrompts was Poison. I‘m in a virtual queue for this book at the local library.

True crime mixed with science. This book is by a professor of physiology so it includes a section in each chapter about how each poison works in the human body, at the cellular level. Famous murder cases are related and include the death of Georgi Markov, killed with a tiny hollow pellet filled with ricin, and Charles Cullen, the killer nurse who used digoxin. Quite interesting. Five stars.
Yay! This hold just came in. I usually don't read much non-fiction, but this one intrigued me because I read a lot of murder mysteries.
I finally finished a book! It's been a long, flu fueled couple of weeks but this book and puzzle were good company. I love #truecrime books about poison, and this one didn't get too bogged down in the science aspect of it. Lots of Agatha Christie quotes!

Excited to dive into this one
The title doesn‘t really suggest how genuinely entertaining of a read this is! Each chapter goes in depth on a particular poison- from the familiar ones like arsenic, strychnine and cyanide to unfamiliar ones like polonium. Bradbury breaks down the biology of its impact on the human body as well as least one criminal case where the poison was used- and how it was detected. With surprising humor, this is an informative and interesting read!

This was a truly fascinating read about poisons and crimes committed with them. I knew about most of these poisons but not the crimes associated with them. I loved the science mixed with true crime. It was informative, engaging, and a thrilling read.
I love a good true crime and history of crime combo! Looking forward to reading this one!
4/5
This was a great book that talked about many notorious poisons, how each effects the body to catastrophic effect, and one or two stories of cases where they were determined to have been used. It also talks about what we've been able to learn from various poisons, some even to treat disease or counteract other poisons. It was a times a bit gruesome, since it does describe the effects of the poison on the body, but it was a fascinating read.
