pickOhhh that was very infodumpy.
It feels like MXTX got more complex and serious than with SVSSS, but didn't yet have the craft that made TGCF shine. I can see lots of stuff I like the idea of here, and there are some fun scenes, but holy mackerel, I cannot keep this backstory straight.
I basically treated it like a Norse saga though: let the names wash over you, you'll get it later. It has potential, though I don't *love* it.
so-soOut of all of MXTX‘s works this was the one that interested me the least. I wasn't going to buy it but I found it for £3 at a charity shop.
This didn't capture me. I enjoyed the sections in the present but I found the flashbacks quite dull. I'm not interested enough to carry on, especially since it's such a long series and expensive to buy.

pickAnother great series! This series is a “Light Novel” which means it‘s format is the same as a regular book with a few illustrations along the way. This was a great set up for the rest of the series. Love the characters.
Getting ready to finish this one. Gonna be a 5 star. Loved The Untamed and I love this book.

I finished the first volume of GRANDMASTER OF DEMONIC CULTIVATION‘s official English translation this morning, with minimal help from my sleepy dog. This version‘s a lot more polished than the unofficial fan translation I read a couple years back. I dunno if the contents got another round of edits or if these translators interpreted things differently, but I definitely appreciate the lessened homophobia. It seriously jarred me back then.
This was forced on me ahem, I mean recommended to me by a 2021 Year 12 student who generously gave every book I suggested over the past 4 years a go. So it‘s my turn. Originally posted to a Chinese online site, it has finally been translated and published as a physical text. I have waited ages for it to arrive (#bookdepo).
