Things have gone a bit sideways lately.
In this week and next:
- Bart the cat's health has gone downhill AND he injured his foot
- the bf is moving in tomorrow, a plan we hadn't expected to execute until at least April, but then his roommates gave him a two week notice to move out
-i have a phone interview for the possible ideal job tomorrow
-i have no water at my home, and no eta on when I will again

But this book is KILLING it!!

Absolutely amazing book. Judis theorizes that economic recession is directly correlated to populist politics and backs his claim by exploring historical and current events in American politics, and then applying his theory to the 2016 POTUS election and to the recent upsurge in populist activity in Europe.
His prediction that Trump would lose is obviously wrong, but this is still an important book for understanding current global politics.

Gave the history of the populist movements since the 1890s. Shows that the middle and lower classes have been unhappy with status quo since industrialization, and that it's not just in the U.S., but worldwide. Usually these populist movements form around a personality or one specific policy or complaint, but that some have some staying power.

I had hoped to finish all three but only succeeded in finishing The Populist Explosion. Will review after I think about it a little.

My plan is to finish these three this weekend. I think the weather will cooperate by raining. 😉

It's slow going. A lot of history and names, but I think it's helping put the recent election into historical terms for me. It's helping with the how and why.

Just trying to understand today's political climate. Think it will explain some of the hate-filled rhetoric?
