Most depressing book I've ever read. An updated, globalized, thoroughly postmodern Catcher in the Rye. The way he wrote it made me forget that this book is set in Japan. Lots of references to Western pop culture. Nostalgia game is strong. Hated almost all of the characters. #fiction #murakami #norwegianwood #sad #depression #nostalgia #grief #mentalhealth #asianlit #postmodern #litsy #novel

Nothing shocking or revelatory here. Just her, blaming everyone (and accepting maybe 2% of the blame herself) for her loss. I voted for her (I hate Trump) but yeah. This wasn't an amazing book. I'm glad I borrowed it from the library instead of buying a copy. Not worth revisiting.

RaimeyGallant Interesting how mixed the reviews are. Good to know. :) 7y

Just got this one for #amazonkindle. I just finished Prozac Nation yesterday. So far I'm finding that this book holds me at a much safer distance than Prozac Nation-- I find Kaysen's narrative approach to be much more voyeuristic than Wurtzel's. This makes it easier for me to read, but I feel generally less engaged with the main character. Still definitely worth a read though! #autobiography #womenslit #nonfiction

This book destroyed me. The writing was tender and surprising and horrifying and intimate and sexy. I hated the characters and loved them at the same time. God. It's been a long time since a book moved me like this. I hope Bryn writes a million more novels. 💯

Howl's Moving Castle | Diana Wynne Jones
Pickpick

Easily the best fantasy novel I've ever read. It's remarkably complex and deep for a YA book to begin with, but the intimacy and details with which Jones develops each character and their points of view alone make it a masterpiece of writing. It's funny, scary, dark, and silly. It has made a lasting impression on me. I'll miss being in the castle with these guys. Can't wait for my copy of the sequel to arrive from #Amazon! #fantasy #yanovel #howl

Utopiyll I love love loved Howl's Moving Castle! 💕 It isn't spoken about enough!! 7y

Amazing. Beautiful encapsulation of the ridiculousness of war, the grieving process, and the human psyche when processing trauma. Of the same caliber as Morrison's Beloved. Funny and terrifying, simultaneously.

Absolutely amazing book. Judis theorizes that economic recession is directly correlated to populist politics and backs his claim by exploring historical and current events in American politics, and then applying his theory to the 2016 POTUS election and to the recent upsurge in populist activity in Europe.
His prediction that Trump would lose is obviously wrong, but this is still an important book for understanding current global politics.

They leave when they are finished." #abandonme #melissafebos

10/10. Fabulous. Paradigm-shifting. I never do self help/ pop psych books either. This one is the real deal though. Her simple graph for mapping out how to process strong emotional responses and how to get past them is unbelievable. Her research is solid. It's a quick read too. Highly recommend.

This book is problematic af, but I can't put it down. I'm horrified at how casually she talks about her clients, and how judgmental she is, while at the same time, utterly fascinated. #memoir #kindle #ebook #subculture

REPollock It bothers me that she consistently maintains that she‘s not doing it for any reason beyond the money, even as it seems clear that she was drawn to it for other reasons too. It‘s like she wants to make sure you don‘t think she‘s ashamed of something she‘s secretly ashamed of. 5y

The #librivox recording of this play is laughably bad. The woman reading Regan... just no. I feel bad criticizing them because they volunteered to do it and it's a free recording, but damn. It's distractingly bad. And the whole point of me seeking out the recording in the first place was to help me comprehend what I was reading.
I actually hated this play anyway though, so it's a moot point.

Not an amazingly written book in terms of technical skill. She retells a lot of the same stories from Lakota Woman, but with nothing new to add to them. Her overall tone is "tired and fed up" and it struck me as sad that she lived in such abject poverty until she died. I feel that she wrote this book purely because she needed the royalties, not because she actually had anything more to say though.
