Der Schlüssel zu Rebecca
Der Schlüssel zu Rebecca: Thriller | Ken Follett
13 posts | 32 read | 12 to read
Sommer 1942.

Yesterday, I thought I liked it. But today I decided I do not. The World War II setting doesn‘t catch me and in my eyes most of the characters are stereotypes.

Don‘t know, if it‘s me or the fact that the book was published in 1980. 🤷ðŸ½â€â™€ï¸

His code name: "The Sphinx." His mission: to send Rommel's advancing army the secrets that would unlock the doors to Cairo...and the ultimate Nazi triumph in the war. A spy novel with lots of action that keeps the pages turning. Great character development and excellent plot. Follett is the best storyteller and his books have accurate historical research. Recommended for those who love WWII spy thrillers

I do think Follett is one of the greatest storytellers ever, and not a single book thus far has disappointed me. That been said, WWII and fiction does not really work for me. Too much focus on that time period, too many books. Follett however always makes even these books interesting, and this time the book is set in Egypt. Germans vs English. Spies. Rommel. And, my fave thing; the book Rebecca by Dauphne Du Maunier. 3,5 stars #kenfollettbuddyread

EadieB Nice review! 5y
BookishMe The heft of his books weren't a pull factor for me. That reference to the classic is main reason I will this a go! 5y

Set during WWII, three of my favorite Ken Follett's novels.

#MarchBookstagram2018 Day 5: New to me genre: Crime Fiction
I scare easily so you wouldn‘t find a lot of books with dark themes on my shelf. But I believe that balance is key, so I‘m trying to wiggle out of my comfort zone with these books. Ken Follett is @themisterbien ‘s current obsession, and I‘ve decided to start with Irene Recio‘s #HeistClubPH book bec it has some romance(?) in it, i think? #crimefiction

🗠#thisremindsmeof A lot of Littens have been posting about Folletts giant epic multi volume stuff. But his breakthrough to bestseller status came with his earlier spy thrillers. This one was published in 1980.WW II , set in Cairo,German super spy vs English officer who recruits a lovely Jewish girl to help foil the plan. What could go wrong.Gotta love a book that begins “The last camel collapsed at noon.â€ðŸª

This is from my father's collection of #spynovels in Spanish. He had lots of them from the 60's, 70's and 80's, those were his favorite kind of novels. The James Bond copy is actually from 1965 and belonged to my grandfather. My favorite is The Key to Rebeca, it was the first spy novel I ever read. #photoadaynov16

LisaJo I've always considered this my first "adult book". I read it as a freshman in high school. Up till this one, I had basically read Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes. 8y
tpixie @LisaJo maybe that's why it left an impression with me, too! 8y

Every now and then I need a book that is the junk food equivalent to literature. This fit the bill perfectly this weekend. I liked it. I didn't love it. But I couldn't stop reading it. Kinda like Pringles. Also, I love reading in my garden.
