I‘ve been a fan of Toyne‘s books for years and this latest start to a new mystery series set in London is truly fantastic! Told across multiple perspectives, with a variety of characters, a modern feel and a genuinely twisting plot, I couldn‘t put this down! The vile characters are truly vile, the murders are grisly and justice is ultimately served! And I‘m so thrilled to already have the next book in the series queued up and ready to go!

I enjoyed the multiple POVs & the characters Laughton Rees & Tannahill Khan. I liked the pacing of the book & there were surprises until the very end! Laughton is brought in as a consultant on the murder of a woman in a luxurious home when a book she wrote is left at the crime scene. Also, the woman barely has a paper trail making everyone wonder who would want to kill her. I like the way the case resolves & that there‘s going to be a 2nd book!

I‘ve yet to read a bad book by Simon Toyne, and this one was no different. An excellent murder mystery with a bit of a twist based on what was left at the murder scene. Great characters, great plotting and great storytelling. I definitely recommend this book and could see how it could easily be made into a series.
3rd book read for #20in4 16th book for #AugustARC @Clwojick

I have a final paper due for the semester. I am so unmotivated to complete what is a completely silly assignment. Rewarding myself by writing one section & then reading 50 pages of my current read.

Does anyone else do this? 🤣

119 days until graduation! 🎓

Leftcoastzen I do similar thing with housework. Work a half hour reward myself with 15 minutes of reading 2y

Laughton Rees' novel was found at the murder scene. Kate Muller was killed. Did her husband do it? Laughton's mom was murdered when she was fifteen. She cut off contact with her dad, a police commissioner, whom she blamed for failing to prevent the murder. The crime scene had some disturbing personal elements for Laughton. Is someone sending her a message?

EadieB I enjoyed this book and found the plot intriguing. The characters were well-drawn and complicated. The twist at the end was a complete surprise and very satisfying. If you like crime thrillers with hidden messages, then you will enjoy this book. I would like to thank William Morrow and NetGalley for a copy for an honest review. (edited) 2y

Andrew65 No doesn‘t look like any of his books have ever been on Net Galley in the U.K. 😔 2y
EadieB @Andrew65 That‘s strange since he is British! 2y
Nute I hope that the actual cover design remains like the ARC eReader design. It‘s really cool! 2y
