Book haul #3
Happy day after Easter! Were you able to do anything special at home yesterday? My children are adults so they have no interest in bunnies and baskets. The day was mostly spent relaxing. My husband and I did go fake book shopping, though. If you are wondering what that means, let me explain! Since I have so many books, several of them have been boxed up and put in our storage unit. I cannot remember most of what I

Li Du is an exiled librarian who comes to town just before the emperor is due to preside over an eclipse. He doesn't want to get involved in the political agenda, but when a Jesuit dies under suspicious circumstances, he investigates and his cousin, the magistrate, gives him a deadline: figure it out before the emperor arrives. China in 1708 is a fascinating backdrop to this mystery, as Li Du discovers each suspect's secrets.
#24in48 begins! Hour 0, Midnight Central Time. Trying out this fantasy that I‘ve had for awhile. #Chinesefiction #mystery
Yet another book from my mount TBR. A historical fiction mystery that mixes court intrigue and Chinese culture and politics in the 1700s China.

Jade Dragon Mountain by Elsa Hart is a mystery set on the border of China and Tibet in 1708 about Li Du, an imperial librarian who has been exiled and gets caught up in the mystery surrounding the murder of a Jesuit astronomer. I've been looking forward to reading it for quite some time now, so I think this will be my next read after I finish Flame in the Mist.

Really good historical thriller. Imperial China, British company agents, evil plots and the emperor of China! The writing is great and I hope the rest of the series by the same detective scholar is as good as the first. The audio narration is good but not great
I enjoyed this book. The main character was intriguing and the character who became his side kick had me laughing constantly. I could feel and hear and smell this story, not just see it, which is one of my favorite things. Even better, this story had me doing research to learn more about the people and customs of the setting of this book. I love it when that happens and intend to find the next book rapidly.
My November plans 😜 #novembertbr #librarybookhaul
A wonderful murder mystery set in 1700's China. The main character is extremely likable and endearing and described (not necessarily to his liking) as a scholar recluse. A term I think is absolutely fantastic! I am not good with solving mysteries so the investigation was extremely interesting and once the murderer caught you think the story is over. But surprise still come! I will definitely be checking out the second book featuring Li Du.

Author visit/book signing tonight was so fun! I haven't been to many of these, but I definitely will in the future. Elsa is very sweet, inspired, and knowledgeable, and I'm really excited to read her books!
