Boss Witch | Ann Aguirre
9 posts | 7 read | 7 to read
The second in an adorable witchy rom-com series by New York Timesbestselling author Ann Aguirre, perfect for fans of: Ride-or-die female friendships A bisexual heroine who stubbornly refuses to accept help A hero with an incredibly pesky moral conscience A mouse named Benson who may or may not have all the answers to life, magic, and love (Spoiler: he does!) Clementine Waterhouse is a perfectly logical witch. She doesn't tumble headlong into love. Rather she weighs the pros and cons and decides if a relationship is worth pursuing. At least that's always been her modus operandi before. Clem prefers being the one in charge, always the first to walk away when the time is right. Attraction has never struck her like lightning. Until the witch hunter comes to town. Gavin Rhys hates witches, and he's dedicated his life to tracking them down, no matter the cost. His family honor is on the line, and he needs to prove he's nothing like his father, a traitor who let everyone down. But things in St. Claire aren't what they seem, and Gavin is distracted from the job immediately by a bewitching brunette with a sexy smile and haunting secrets in her eyes. Can the bossiest witch in town find true love with someone committed to her downfall?

I read this after reading Witch, please by Ann Aguirre and I enjoyed this one more. I liked the back story of Gavin and it was neat to read some of the same events from Witch, please but from Clem‘s perspective. It was cute and light and an easy read.

To me, this one seemed to have a deeper plot than Witch, Please did. History of the witch hunters with present day witches was promising and kept you invested. The “wow” moment though..not plausible. So much build up for a quick poof that was over in a page or two. It would‘ve been great if there was a bigger scene at the peak of conflict. Fun and flirty reads with a smidge of zing.

Still on my #dumbwitchjuice 😅 I‘m really enjoying this series of rom coms— witchy & light with some steamy bits driving the plot forward 🔥 still carrying my Agatha bio around, too. 🧐 Shamelessly reading these on my phone with it next to me.

This was a light and slightly humorous romance read. Definitely second in the series that kind of throws you right in with no recap of book one because the timeline slightly overlaps the first book before moving forward. Clem and Gavin were likeable enough as leads and the secondary characters helped make the town come to life. Curious about the third book now because hints were given as to what is going on in that future storyline.

Part of this book overlaps with the first book of the Fix It Witches series. I liked diving into the witch Clem‘s complicated relationship with Gavin The Witch Hunter. A constant sense of impending disaster hung over each interaction between them. Clem knows why Gavin is in town and has set out to distract him with seduction which eventually becomes something more. The colorful characters kept the book from slipping into a darker space.

So happy I was able to get an ARC of this book. This duo has been super cute and I‘m going to miss this town.

bthegood I love when I find a book or series that makes me “miss“ the place/characters when I'm done with it - putting these on my TBR - thanks - 2y
