Well, this was completely heartbreaking! But excellent, and there were some nice ties to the first book.

4✨ This book destroyed me! It is the prequel to “They Both Die At The End” where the start of the mysterious Death-Cast, who can predict people‘s deaths. The very first call went to one of the POV characters that we follow. This is so sad and so heartfelt that I honestly just could not function after I finished it. I really liked how side characters were all interconnected. Fiction aside the connection between the main POVs seems highly improbable
It's been a crazy week (or two..) but I want to begin this weekend in the best way possible! 🤓📚💚 Happy Friday, dear Littens!!!
No matter how many times I'm destined to read this novel, I will ALWAYS cry at the end. Those last fifty-so pages are rough when you love these beautiful characters so much, but however much I sob, and however much this book is ultimately about death, I will read it until my own End Day because somehow it gives me faith in life. Death-Cast will forever be a great conversation starter. Now, I'm aching for the third instalment more than ever! ☠️⌛️
This book is amazing! I really love the way Adam Silvera writes.
The way you read all different perspectives gives you almost a movie feeling. This book is not for you if you don't like crying while reading because I did so the last 50 pages. So beautiful!
It's becoming a compulsion to make these when I'm bored ☠️⌛️.
I have #deathcast on the brain. Hence, I'm frantically designing quotes to scratch the itch of a re-read! Excuse my obsession with Silvera! 🕝⏳️.
Gawd! I need the third instalment in the #deathcast universe! Until then, more Adam Silvera quotes! ☠️⌛️
Another pair of boys to love 💕 This prequel is just as good as the first book, and it was fun to catch glimpses of the boys in the original book several years before their story happens.
Firstly, Silvera brutally broke my (already) melancholic heart in two (read: I ugly sobbed). Never in a million years did I expect to love the prequel just as much (OK, maybe even a smidgen more) than the original Death Cast story. I've promoted myself to full-on fangirling Adam Silvera! Superb writing, I especially loved the interlocking narratives and stories, leaving me punching air after reading more info on my favourite characters. Flawless.
"You are helping," Naya says. "But until they believe in you, don't forget who already does"
Since I've got into an car accident there's not much left to do but heal and read.
I'm okay, as long as no one takes my reading away from me I'm going to be okay!
I loved They Both Die at the End, and was hoping for that same magic here, but I just wasn‘t feeling it. 🤷🏻♀️
Amazing prequel to They Both Die At The End. A lot more romantic and sad, but also still fun and meaningful.
4/5 🌟
This books made me feel so many different emotions, sometimes at the same time. Even though this story concluded in only 24 hours, the bond created by the characters was so well written and developed, that it made it seem like their relationship had started years prior.
Walking down memory lane with Orion and Valentino was heartbreaking, and intense, and something I recommend to everyone.

I was going to read something else but my Libby hold came in for this
After a very difficult start to the year, I‘m starting my first read of 2023 💕
Joaquin wants them- wants me- to remember that we‘re all the captains on the decks of our own ships, setting sail for own last journey.
It‘s nice to have a co-captain
I could finally become a novel instead of a short story.
It‘s heartbreaking how much it costs to be alive when you‘re always dying
Everyone is running for their lives, but not me.
I no longer have one to run for.
The first book I‘ve officially finished in 2023, and I flew right through it. It was pretty good, first one was better but overall I liked it. I wish we got to see more of how death cast worked besides calling people to inform them of their imminent death
Can‘t tell you how excited I was for this. Except I BAILED??? 😭 Adam Silvera is one of my favorite authors; I‘ve binged his books in days. Which means I could tell that this *DID NOT* feel like his writing. It felt bland, forced, and I didn‘t make it past their first meeting. Super disappointed 🥲 hope to revisit
Prequel to They Both Die at The End. You MUST read TBDATE first otherwise the significance of the cameos of those characters will be lost on you; you see little Matteo and Rufus as well as minor characters. Touching story about love and loss, like TBDATE. Do not listen to the last few chapters of the audiobook while driving because there will be tears. You‘ll have to pull over. And you‘ll arrive at your destination with red eyes 😭😭
“Freedom should be freeing, but that doesn‘t mean it can‘t be heartbreaking. “

Okay, so I finished this book, and here I am sobbing -again- like I did after I had finished reading ‘They Both Die at the End‘. I‘m still crying. This was such a rollercoaster, gosh.
But even after everything, I am honoured to have been taken down memory lane with Valentino and Orion, so a huge thanks to @Lovelylottereader once again for this gift.

Starting over is scary, but that‘s the only way forward.
It's heartbreaking how much it costs to be alive when you're always dying.
“I love my parents so damn much, every time I got to talk about them in the past tense like they're nothing but ghosts instead of the living, breathing solid people they were, it breaks me. Here's the truth no one wants to admit when death is on the horizon, or when you're deep in that grief-- as long as you keep existing, you'll keep breathing, and if you're breathing, one day you'll start living again.“
“I understand that the person who gets the Death-Cast call isn't the only one dying. If you really hold someone in your heart, you die too.“
Freedom should be freeing, but that doesn‘t mean it can‘t be heartbreaking.
I know I don‘t have all the time in the world, I feel it in my heart.
I got to go live my firsts- maybe even lasts- while I can.
It‘s been a while since I read “They Both Die at the End” and it completely destroyed me. So now, here I am with the prequel, just waiting for it to send me into agonising pain. Huge thanks to @Lovelylottereader for giving me this brilliant book for my birthday, I really appreciate it! ❤️
😭😭😭😭 Why must Adam Silvera hurt me like this. This is the story of Valentino and Orion. Two boys who life changed as soon as death cast called one of them. Now while racing against time they are determined to make this last day the best day ever. I laughed, I cried. My emotions were all over the place. I definitely recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not even halfway through and this book is already about to break me😩😩
"The First to Die at the End" packs just as much of an emotional punch as "They Both". This prequel opens on the night before Death-Cast goes live and there are so many unknowns. How will it affect those who do and do not receive that call? Valentino and Orion are the perfect characters to help answer this question. With heartwarming cameos from characters that we love, this book will fill the hole left in your heart from "They Both".
