Wonderful series of interviews between Cave and an Irish journalist/friend that took place over the COVID years.
They do discuss Nick‘s influences, music and his formative years in Australia, but mostly the discussion relates to his spiritual and religious views, work ethic and the grief experienced in the aftermath of the death of Arthur and, to a lesser extent, his mother and Anita Lane.
Very thought-provoking.

pickNick Cave, a musician, is known for being part of a wild and chaotic band. As he‘s aged and had to go through the process of grieving the death of his teenage son, he is a changed man. He was always a seeker but now, to my mind, he‘s closer to that liminal space and understanding that love is the thread of life. Wonderful conversations with O‘Hagan. I read the last 1/3‘d of the book in one sitting and it felt especially spiritually potent. 🔽
“Hope is optimism with a broken heart.” Nick Cave is dropping such great lines in this book.
Talk about random moments in time! Serendipity! This morning I saw Flea on IG talking about the power of this book. Then I saw that @MrsMalaprop had reviewed it positively. I called my small local bookstore. They had one copy left. Just so happens it was an autographed copy. What are the chances an autographed copy would be in a small store in Vermont? I was just shocked they even had the book! Very excited to read it.

Making a start on this latest Nick Cave book created from more than 40 hours of conversations with journalist (& friend) Sean O‘Hagan. I saw the man in concert again recently and it was sublime. So too it seems is this book #fangirl #swoon
