Happy world book day!
When I was living in the UK, we had World Book Night which is the first Thursday in March (they moved the date because it conflicts with school holidays).
You used to apply to give away the selected books. You‘d find people who don‘t read often or at all and give them a book (provided to you for free). I think now bookstores and libraries give them away.
It was great! I wish we had something similar here.
Ruthiella They did do it for at least one year in the US because I snagged a copy of Patty Smith‘s “Just Kids” from it. This would have been in maybe 2014 or so? But it was ultimately discontinued I guess. 3d
Kitta @Ruthiella Oh cool, that‘s before I moved to the US so I guess I missed it. I remember when that was a choice! I‘m sad they don‘t do the free books here anymore. But I guess I‘m not their target market - they‘re trying to get more people to read and I already do. It was a great way to meet people as a giver of the books. Me Before YouKitta @Ruthiella which was weird because I read it and didn‘t like it, but I see the appeal for others lol. I didn‘t get to choose which book I was giving out. But I was happy to give them to those interested in it. Maybe it‘s just me but everyone else seems to love it 🤷🏻♀️ (edited) 3d
