7 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
A woman fleeing her disastrous marriage discovers that she is part of a legendary love story that spans lives, years, and continents in this modern-day reimagining of Romeo and Juliet. Cleverly imagines the epilogue Romeo and Juliet didnt get to have, and how curses can be blessings in disguise.JODI PICOULT When Helene was young, she dreamed of the perfect man and filled her notebooks with stories about him and about love in its purest form. But after a messy divorce, she has let go of such naive fantasies. She has moved to a small town in Alaska, where she is ready to write her novel and build a new life without romance. Fate has other plans, though. Helene soon meets Sebastien Montague, a handsome fisherman who is her invented hero made flesh, down to the most idiosyncratic details. But how can a man she created possibly exist in the real world? While Helene tries to discover the truth behind his existence, Sebastien is determined to keep that truth from her, for he is a man scarred by serial tragedy, hiding a secret that has broken his heart time and again. Yet the shadows of the past emerge, endangering Helene and Sebastiens future before it even beginsand it becomes clear that it wont be easy to forge a new ending to the greatest love story of all time.

Unique, romantic, timeless, and lyrical. You have to suspend disbelief for this time-bending love story that reimagines Romeo and Juliet as a love story that never really ends but is reincarnated through the centuries. I recommend this for Shakespeare fans, romantics, anyone who loves an unusual novel that also somehow seems universal. So good! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

bookandbedandtea I enjoyed this. In fact, I was a little surprised how much I liked it, given that I've never been thrilled with Shakespeare's version. 5mo

When you're in the mood for something sweet, give this a try. After the pain and suffering in my last few books, this was just what I needed. 💖
Should be called the hundred loves of Romeo, though.

It's our last morning at the cabin. 😢 Soon, we'll have to pack, clean, and head home, but first, a couple more hours of reading. 😀

🌟🌟🌟 read. And the reason for this is twofold for me. 1) the author didn't take ownership of a Romeo and Juliet retelling. She leaned into it. Mash-up of the Time Travelers Wife/Romeo & Juliet but didn't fully commit. And 2) the writing itself was not absorbing. I really wanted to love this but yeah...I wouldn't avoid it totally but also wouldn't rush to get it. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Fun, romantic, and more of a thrill ride than I expected, even if the story felt a bit pat on occasion. The concept of Juliet reincarnating over and over again was right up my alley - just wish Skye had leaned more into her and Romeo /actually/ being cursed. A good summer book! #romance #womensfiction #urbanfantasyadjacent

With such an interesting premise, a retelling of Romeo and Juliet where Romeo (Sebastien) was immortal and Juliet (Helene) reincarnated, this held promise. Sebastien believes he is cursed, as every life of Juliet‘s has died tragically shortly after they meet. He sets out to avoid Helene, but of course fate intervenes and they are thrust together.

The delivery and the writing left me wanting and Sebastien and Helene lacked chemistry.
