Miss Gatsby and I have crawled into bed after a long day working to get the cottage open. Tomorrow will likely be long too with a lot of cleaning and unpacking still to do so I don‘t know that I‘ll get much reading done tonight before I crash.

This is a story of love, betrayal, and the enduring power of art, spanning decades from pre-World War II Germany to contemporary America. Inspired by the real-life Allach porcelain factory in Dachau, the novel is set against the backdrop of the Bauhaus movement in 1929 Weimar. LOVED IT!

Debut author writes a very unique historical fiction book set in the time period of WW2.Ihave read many books during this time period however the author has captured the facts in a very different style. The Porcelain Maker of Dachau captures the gut wrenching events that transpired during this time period. Totally engaging and a different perspective of WW2.

WWII story that looks at the life of two artist who met when they were young. They fall in love but Hitler takes control of Germany and soon Max is in fear of his life. Not only is he an artist, but also a Jew. Bettina is an abstract artist that is at odds with her family. If artists weren't a certain type in Germany at this time, they also feared for their life. Max tries to get Bettina to leave, but soon it's to late. ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read What must they do to survive such a world?

Freethy writes a very moving story. It's Historical Fiction at its finest. A love story that is heartbreaking. Freethy made me feel like I was experiencing everything that went on right during that time in History. There was great character development. I was disgusted at what happened during the Holocaust and pray it never happens again.

If you like historical fiction, love stories, or WWII books, don't miss this one.

Functional on a plot level, but the writing felt more like a television script that the author was adapting than a novel. I was also irritated by Bettina's final scene with Holger, and I never felt any URGENCY from the narrative. The porcelain factory was fresh for me, but that's about it. #historicalfiction

The Porcelain Maker

I think this was a well written story that took hold of my heart and held on. Anything that deals with history needs to be shared. Needs to be read. We certainly don't want to have any of it repeated.

Fabulous read!!

A beautiful, but heartbreaking debut that introduces us to the decorative Allach Porcelain telling how they were made and where they were made.

Fascinating information about the factory and the porcelain.

Don't miss it...you will be with Max as he endures his time in Dachau making the porcelain figurines, as Bettina waits for him, and as you hope for the best.

This tragic love story set during WWII unfolds in two timelines. In 1993, Clara searches for whatever information she can find on porcelain figures that are somehow tied to the identity of her father. The bulk of the book begins in the rising art movement in Germany in the 1920s/30s, as Bettina & Max fall in love, even as the world around them falls apart. A sadly captivating story that I wish had a bit more balance of hope & happiness by the end.
