Grimoire Girl
Grimoire Girl: Creating an Inheritance of Magic and Mischief | Hilarie Burton Morgan
3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
The actor, producer, and New York Times bestselling author of The Rural Diaries provides a Grimoire for the modern girl--a book of life-saving wisdom, essays from Hilarie's life, and ways we all can create our own everyday enchantment. Grimoire Girl is a book of life saving wisdom that Hilarie Burton wants to pass down to her own children, friends, and fortunately, all of us. It is her personal grimoire, a collection of essays that follows her odyssey to define "home" for her and her family. Chronicling her journey through the dark wood of grief and loss of identity, she reveals how she endured and came out the other side, discovering that home means returning to your true self and embracing everyday enchantment. As she did in Rural Diaries, Hilarie includes recipes and tips sure to delight fans, and shares ways to infuse magic into daily life: how to craft an altar, how to see your deepest friendships as your "coven," simple spells, and meals and rituals that create special traditions for your family. Grimoire Girl includes 15 two-color illustrations.

(Audiobook)
I LOVED Burton-Morgan's debut novel, Memoir 'The Rural Diaries'. She is a natural writer and storyteller. Grimoire Girl has the same cozy, familiar quality of sitting down for tea with a friend. She lost me a bit on her descriptions of various gods and saints; these were concise and well written, but felt out of place to me for some reason. (I'm sure it's not her, it's me). Overall, worth the read!

So there‘s certain subjects, (leaving legacies, getting hand written mail among some) that we have a very similar view on though we‘ve come to the conclusion very differently. Better written than I thought it would. Definitely makes me think about my “Ithaca”. Definitely a person I instagram follow now and want to be friends with.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I loved the combination of personal story, shared experience and self-help/instruction to this. HBM isn't trying to turn anyone into a scary, craggy witch. She just wants us all to find out inner magic that ties us to the magic of the world around us. Our magical bliss, so to speak. It's kind of beautiful. #47-2023
