A Deadly Thaw: A Mystery | Sarah Ward
8 posts | 11 read | 22 to read
Lena Grey is found guilty of murdering her husband, who was found smothered in their bed. She offers no defense, and serves fourteen long years in prison. But within months of her release nearly two decades later, his body is found in a disused morgue, recently killed. Who was the man she killed before, and why did she lie about his identity? Detective Inspector Francis Sadler and his Derbyshire team try to discover how such a well-orchestrated deception could have occurred. DC Connie Childs is convinced that something greater than marital strife caused the murders, but before Lena can be questioned further, she vanishes. Back in Lenas childhood home, her sister Kat, a therapist, is shocked by her sisters duplicity. When she begins to receive mysterious packages from a young man claiming to know her sisters location, Kat is drawn into her own investigation of her familys well-hidden secrets. As her inquiries begin to collide with the murder investigation, a link to the sisters teenage lives emerges, and the line between victim and perpetrator becomes blurred in this tightly-plotted, compelling novel perfect for fans of Deborah Crombie and Sharon Bolton.

The second in a scintillating series, this unique police procedural features DC Constance Childs. There is plenty of intrigue and a plot full of the unexpected, with unforeseen twists and turns. This mystery is set in the small English town of Bampton, which hides a big secret, buried below its bubbling surface. Many of the novel‘s characters are broken and scarred, but realistic. I could not put this down; I had to read it in one sitting.

The second D.C. Connie Childs detective novel, set in the Derbyshire peak district. This is a fast-paced murder investigation with an intriguing premise, excellent plot twists, a good sense of danger and a smattering of personal relationship issues to spice things up. Lots of fun! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A woman‘s husband is found shot, thing is she just got out of jail for smothering him to death with a pillow almost 2 decades before. This is all because of a very #metoo thing going on in society

This novel, about the discovery of a body that matches the identity of someone murdered and buried years before, was perfect for a chilly evening. Fall is mystery novel season for me, and I'm glad to have so many great ones to choose from!

I enjoyed this book. The short chapters which change perspective kept the story moving quickly. I hope that the author continues to write mysteries involving this group of police officers.

Sarah Ward is an author on the rise. This book is EXACTLY what I was in the mood for!!! I'm about 40% through and I'm completely hooked. A classic whodunnit with strong influences of Nordic Noir. Sarah, I'm already a fan!!😍💙 #crimefiction #SarahWard
