Here we go y'all. This book is billed as "for fans of Jo Nesbø, Camilla Läckberg, and Ruth Ware" - SUCH a winning combination. I've only just started reading it, but it begins with the discovery of a woman's beheaded corpse. The writing is already incredibly engaging and I can't wait to see where it goes! #crimefiction

I am so, so thrilled to have an early copy of this book!! Sara is one of my favorite Scandinavian authors - she's from Denmark - and her Louise Rick series is consistently praised for its realistic and detailed portrayal of police work, PLUS it has super endearing characters. THE LOST WOMAN follows Louise as she unravels the mystery connecting her partner and boyfriend with a methodical killing of a housewife in rural England. #crimefiction

Midwinter Blood: A Thriller | Mons Kallentoft

This is how Mons describes a forest. I LOVE his writing.

"The geography of evil.
What does it look like? What sort of topography? ... Is the geography of evil small outcrops of rock and shallow hollows? Half-grown forest, a woman with the tatters of black clothing hanging from her body, dragging herself along a deserted forest road at dawn.
Is the beast here in the forest?"

Deep into book 1 of the Malin Fors series, and I am enjoying it more & more with each page I read. Malin is a fiercely independent police superintendent, and she's tasked with investigating the murder of a man found horrifically mutilated and hanging in a tree. This book is uniquely contemplative - with both Malin and the victim's body exploring their thoughts on life & the afterlife. A very unique Scandi crime read so far! #crimefiction

Dear Mr. M: A Novel | Herman Koch

I can't believe I'm finally holding this book in my hands. After devouring THE DINNER & SUMMER HOUSE WITH SWIMMING POOL nearly 2 years ago, I went on a hunt for info on his next book to be translated into English, & have been waiting ever since. (Yes, I stalked his agents. No shame!) Koch is one of my top 3 favorite authors- his writing is biting, irreverent, and psychologically astute- & I'm beyond thrilled to be back in his mind. #crimefiction

I am loooving this book!!! Läckberg seriously knows how to write a layered, compelling police procedural with a big heart. This case is creeepy and I love how different threads of the story are coming together. Main character Erica is researching her next true crime book (she's a writer), and her research is becoming interwoven with her police officer husband's current case. Love it! #crimefiction

This book is action-packed already, and I'm only 50 pages in!!! ? I love how Läckberg always interweaves chapters from the past throughout her stories - I love trying to figure out how the characters in the flashback chapters will impact the story's central mystery. ? #crimefiction

My ONE qualm with this book so far: the writing is pretty choppy. That might be an issue with translation, or perhaps a result of the book having 2 authors? Or it could just be the book's style. I am very interested in the story's central case so I'm reading on happily, BUT I hope I get into the groove with this book soon! #crimefiction

Less than 50 pgs in, but fully absorbed in this police procedural already. This one has all the hallmarks of a piece of Nordic noir that I'm destined to love: it starts with a shocking act of violence, and promises a complex plot with a sharp eye for investigative details.

Really enjoying this book so far. Julie was kidnapped from her home at 13; now, 8 years later, she reappears on her family's doorstep one night. But inconsistencies in her story soon make her mother question - is this really the same girl who was taken 8 years prior? 😱

I'm struggling with this book pretty hard. It started so strong, but I've lost interest. I'm nearly at the end, & I'm looking forward to the book's conclusion, but I just have almost no investment in the story's characters. Sadly my opinion of this one has gone fairly downhill in the last 100 pgs😔

Bakingbookworm I felt the same way and I reviewed it yesterday. It was extremely strong starting out but the pace slowed a lot and I didn't like the narrator. I finished to know 'whodunnit' but that's about it. It has gotten many high reviews so far but it just wasn't for me. 8y

Every male in this book (except cops) are either, alcoholics, abusers, philanderers or worse. This one-sided view bothered me a little when it wasn't making me laugh.
