The Last Love Note (Target Book Club)
The Last Love Note (Target Book Club) | Emma Grey

You may never stop loving the one you lost. But you can still find love again. Kate is a bit of a mess. Two years after losing her young husband Cameron, she's grieving, solo parenting, working like mad at her university fundraising job, always dropping the ball--and yet clinging to her sense of humor. Lurching from one comedic crisis to the next, she also navigates an overbearing mom and a Tinder-obsessed best friend who's determined to matchmake Kate with her hot new neighbor. When an in-flight problem leaves Kate and her boss, Hugh, stranded for a weekend on the east coast of Australia, she finally has a chance, away from her son, to really process her grief and see what's right in front of her. Can she let go of the love of her life and risk her heart a second time? When it becomes clear that Hugh is hiding a secret, Kate turns to the trail of scribbled notes she once used to hold her life together. The first note captured her heart. Will the last note set it free? The Last Love Note will make readers laugh, cry, and renew their faith in the resilience of the human heart--and in love itself.

I should have known this was going to be a heavier novel by the synopsis, but I was still surprised by how much it hit me. The complexity of emotions Kate experiences throughout the book is so well written. I loved the depth and intention put into it. I consider this a novel about a woman who experiences a great loss and learns to become whole again. Really well done by the author (and the acknowledgements make it all the more poignant).

Although I thought this book could have been better executed (too many reminders of Kate‘s age and Ruby was insignificant to the plot), I liked the story. … Our kids were teenagers when my husband died and I‘m always interested (fact or fiction) in a mother‘s journey through grief. My own experience would not make for a memoir, but I still wish for an editor to cut or rewrite parts of my journey.

marleed @Suet624 @AnnCrystal @bthegood Ahhh thank you. It was a journey but I‘ve been on the other side of that particular grief for long time. In fact, I thought I moved through it so thoughtfully and thoroughly that grief could never again take me down. But I tell you what, when my oldest sister succumbed to her long journey with cancer in 2021 I learned fast and hard there is no vaccination against grief. 3mo
AnnCrystal 😢🙏💝.

There was an episode of the Longmire series, when someone asks the main character (Longmire) something about if grief ever becomes easier. He tells the woman (not an exact qoute. A summary) that grief becomes lighter, but that he would have to forget for it to completely go away, and he never wants to forget the one he loved (Longmire's wife).

Allow the good times fuel your memories and help you heal 💕🙏💝.

bthegood @marleed @AnnCrystal A friend once told me (after a loved one had died and I was dealing with grief) that to grieve meant I had loved and been loved..... ❤ (edited) 3mo
marleed @bthegood @AnnCrystal That is so true. I think about that often with my eldest sister. My mother died when I was toddler and this sister was 10 years my senior. Without doubt she was the person remaining on this earth who loved me fiercely my entire life and without condition. There‘s yet to be a day in the last 3 years I‘m not reminded of her earthly absence in my life. And btw, my other sisters would write the same thing❤️ 3mo

What happens when you become a widow in your 30s? When you lose the love of your life, yet you have a toddler who needs you? Lucky for Kate she has the best support system around. I found her words just flowed, speaking as someone would actually speak in real life. The last page of this book brought tears to my eyes. I doubt I‘ll remember much about this book, but I enjoyed reading it.

This is my first book by this author and boy did it blow me away. This is such an emotional story. Filled with so much love and loss. New beginnings. It has a few chuckles too. It seems to have it all but mostly it's a big tearjerker. About such an unfair disease. A happy family. And a loss that will leave you breathless.

GondorGirl I was so surprised by this one! I think it's a disservice to can it a romance when it's so much more! 12mo

Just started this book; I delayed my picks until 3 days ago since I wasn‘t sure if I wanted to skip or not, so I thought about it for a few weeks to be sure

Tommy loves to hang out when I read, but don't let his cuteness fool you- there is absolutely nothing going on in his fluffy little head. 😅 He's mostly blind and dumb as a box of rocks, but he's the sweetest cat I've ever had. And how could you not love that derpy face? 🥰

I set myself the goal of finishing my #BotM reading challenge before the December books drop. I've only got four to go! But it's a little difficult to get anything read with these two on my lap. 😂
