Shadows on the wall
Noises down the hall
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Bad dogs barking loud
Big ghosts in a cloud
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Shadows on the wall
Noises down the hall
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Bad dogs barking loud
Big ghosts in a cloud
Life doesn't frighten me at all
This poem is a celebration of bravery in the face of adversity. Maya Angelou is an amazing writer and her use of repetition helps readers connect and feel the poem. This poem can help children overcome their fears by understanding that nothing will scare them. It can help them face their fears in real life.
This poem shows resilience and courage. The poem empowers the reader to face life's challenges without fear. There‘s vivid imagery and repetition that creates an amazing sense of strength, making it clear that various aspects of life, such as shadows, loneliness, and even wild animals, are not something to be fearful of.
“Life doesn't frighten me at all. No, they don't frighten me at all. They don't frighten me at all. It's only in my dreams.“
I think this collection of poems would be great in a middle-elementary classroom. As students get older and experience the challenges that come with life these poems can transport them into world where they can see how others are also going through difficult times but end up making it out. I would recommend this book as it is supportive and has a sense of creativity.
This collection of poems is written by the iconic Maya Angelou and is accompanied by illustrations from the works of Jean-Michael Basquiat. Angelou uses evocative words that are emphasized by the illustrations and make them easy to read and a want to continue to read. The poems connect to the reader as they encompass the challenges of life and how you can overcome them.
LIFE DOESN'T FRIGHTEN ME ... at all
Look. It‘s a poem by Maya Angelou and artwork by Basquiat. Separately, they are artistic masterpieces. I get what the editor was doing in trying to put them together, and I guess it kind of works, but not for kids. Every single kid I showed this to found the art work terrifying. The message of the poem couldn‘t get through.
#ReadingResolutions Day 6: Nothing to #Fear from life. An amazing pairing of Jean-Michel Basquiat‘s graffiti art with Angelou‘s powerful lyrical verse. Clinicians call it therapy, academics lecture about “protective factors” among at-risk children. My childlike soul however, call these divining forces amulets, dream catchers, magic spells. We take what we can to keep whole. We hold on to that which keeps us sane.Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-R7
#Aprella Day 24: #WeRise when we nurture a love of reading among our young readers. This photo is when I delivered a workshop open to the public for the National Library Board Singapore last November. Tagged book is included in this curation of titles-show the capacity of the human spirit to overcome &our ability to transform light into dark. Maya Angelou‘s lyrical verse is paired with Basquiat‘s stunning art and you have a classic in your hands.
Perks of working at the library! Saw @CoffeeK8 post this then immediately checked to see if we had it!
Poem by Maya Angelou & illustrations by Basquiat! 😍
A maya Angelou picture-book poem (about fearlessness) illustrated by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Well worn and the first book I bought for my baby girl EllaJane, then in the belly and now almost 13. And life does not frighten miss EllaJ. Not at all, not at all.
Jean-Michel Basquiat left us too soon on this day in 1988.. One of my treasures is this book of his work paired with poetry by Maya Angelou. I hope they are both in a place of beauty, poetry and peace.
Another #WCW....the late great Dr. Angelou. One time, she came to our University's performing arts center. We are friends with people who work there and they told us she always took a shot of whiskey before going on stage.
