Trying to catch up on some reviews. I read this a few weeks ago for #foodandlit #kenya. Recommended by @TheBookHippie , it is a heartwarming, true story of a Masai village who bestows a gift of fourteen cows to the American people,grieving the September 11 attacks. Beautiful illustrations. It is a children‘s picture book, but this adult found it very moving.

What a beautiful picture book about a beautiful gift, from the Maasai to the US after 9/11.

We did book speed dating with one of our librarians in my elementary social studies methods course recently. It‘s always fun getting to spend time looking at books. Also, I still can‘t read “14 Cows for America” and keep my eyes dry. #teacherprep #education #teacher

It talks about a young man from Africa who after the 9-11 attacks decided to go home where he tells the story of what happened. He and his mother had 1 cow and he asked the tribe if he may give the cow to America because the cow represented life. The tribe talked called in the ambassador of America and they gave America 14 cows to represent life. #ucflae3414f19.

14 Cows for America, written by Carmen Agra Deedy, has recieved many awards for the compassionate story. Not something kids are used to seeing and it opens up a new and interesting perspective for them. It touches on a hard subject and shows how everyone can come together. The pictures were compelling and format of the book kept me interested the entire time.

Great story-line to keep kids interested and have them be indulged with a different culture than their used to.Loved the diversity of seeing something else than what I'm used to.

Day #14 of #NovemberbytheNumbers. This book tells the story of how the Maasai sent the United States 14 cows in support following 9/11. Beautifully written with absolutely stunning illustrations, I love this story for many reasons, not the least of which being the powerful cross-cultural message. This is another one y‘all should be sure to check out when you have the chance. #childrenslit

While it is a children's book, this is my favorite book about 9/11. "Because there is no nation so powerful it cannot be wounded, nor a people so small they cannot offer mighty comfort." It gets me every time. It is worth the read.
