Ok- Whiskey is tired of waiting for me to decide to walk in the freezing cold- he wants to go now so I will return to the audiobook portion of my reading and maybe finish one of the several things I have started- January has been a very fragmented reading month so far- by the first of February I should finish about 10 things in one week!!🤣 #DogsOfLitsy

Pricel101 What a cutie!🐾😊 6y
Booksnchill @Pricel101 Thanks- he certainly thinks so! #DachshundRules🐾🤣 6y
ReadingRover Dexter kills me with the walking demands and always during the worst weather at the most inopportune times!!! 😂 6y
Gaylagal2 I know that look very, very well!😉 Chico looks at me like that every single day🐾😂 6y
Booksnchill @ReadingRover @Gaylagal2 and we freeze and give in🐾💖💖🤣 6y

I deeply enjoyed this collection of short poems. Written during a time when the author was undergoing cancer treatments and had to avoid strong sunlight, early morning winter walks were his only chance to be outside. The poems are short because they were made to fit on a postcard that he sent to a fellow poet. These short observations of the landscape and wildlife reflect the author‘s pensive mood and love of the world around him.

Lcsmcat Stacked! 6y

#poemsbeforephones It‘s a beautiful sunny day where I am, but I loved the imagery in this poem about a foggy winter morning.

DivineDiana Beautiful! And your image is perfect! ❤️ 6y

#poemsbeforephones For some reason, this whimsical description of an owl flying back to his nest in the early winter morning has really stuck with me. I had not really read Kooser before, but will definitely be checking out more of his poetry.

merelybookish I like Kooser! He feels very Midwestern to me. He gives depth to ordinary objects and events. 6y
Redwritinghood @merelybookish I grew up in the Midwest, so maybe that‘s why his poems are resonating with me so well. 6y
Graywacke Great poem 6y

merelybookish I think he's from Nebraska. And I lived in the Midwest for 10+ years. It does seem to have its own rhythms and ethos. 6y
MaGoose I love Ted Kooser's poetry. 6y
monalyisha I like this one a bunch! I can see why it‘s stayed with you. 🖤 I like that the owl‘s portrayed as a kind-of Everyman (Everyowl) character; I don‘t know that I‘ve ever read anything like that. They‘re usually imbued with such grace, import, & wisdom. 6y

This poetry volume immediately came to mind when I saw the #walking prompt for #150pnpcoverparty! Turns out I already posted about this book a year ago.

Sorry it‘s so small— screen capture then zoom if you want to read the poetry 😊.

CrowCAH What a coincidence! 🚶‍♀️ 7y
LeahBergen What a marvellous idea for a book. 7y
ValerieAndBooks @CrowCAH I was surprised to find that I was the last one to post about it, too! But poetry doesn‘t seem to get a lot of Litsy posts in general. 7y
ValerieAndBooks @LeahBergen I admire Kooser for both writing a poem a day AND then sending it out! I don‘t have that kind of self-discipline. 7y
Suet624 I agree with your comment above. Such discipline! Wish I could do that. 7y

During one winter, poet Ted Kooser wrote a new poem daily and sent them on postcards to his friend Jim Harrison (RIP). This is a wonderful wintry #poetry pick.

What's happening in my journal right now is what would happen if Winter Morning Walks and Dog Songs had a baby. Sadly, right now, it's proof that not all babies are pretty. Maybe it will improve with age, though.
