Fables: The Wolf Among Us Vol. 1
Fables: The Wolf Among Us Vol. 1 | Matthew Sturges, Dave Justus
5 posts | 4 read | 5 to read
Based on the best-selling video game Fables: The Wolf Among Us! Bigby Wolf used to break every law in the books. Now, as the sheriff of Fabletown-New York City's magically concealed neighborhood of mythical, legendary and fairy tale figures-he is the law, and keeping the streets safe for Fables and Mundanes alike is his beat. So when a beautiful princess-turned-prostitute is decapitated on his watch, Bigby must unleash the wolf within to catch the killer. There's certainly no shortage of suspects. Was it Mister Toad, whose wild ride has brought him to the end of the road? Was it the Woodsman, who's been a pain in the axe ever since little Red put on a hood and rode through the woods? Was it Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, the towering twin goons-for-hire? Or maybe Grendel, the man-monster who's been causing trouble since before Beowulf could grow a beard? With the help of Snow White, his only friend, and Mayor Ichabod Crane, his longtime enemy, Bigby must crack the case soon. He may be the law, but some people can't wait to break him... Telltale Games' prequel to Bill Willingham's legendary series FABLES springs to comic book life in this first volume of FABLES: A WOLF AMONG US, written by Matthew Sturges and Dave Justus and illustrated by Steve Sadowski, Shawn McManus, Travis Moore and Eric Nguyen. Collects issues #1-7.

Dark and sinister. Two perfect words to describe this Fables spinoff. This is taken place before Bigby and Snow get together. I enjoyed it throughout. A good storytelling in the past and in the present. Plus new characters such as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!! I was thrown off a few times but in the end it didn't surprise me. Looking forward to seeing how the next one stacks up. Oh and the illustrations were great!

I love Fables, and it somewhat pains me to give it a less than stellar review... but these prequel installments didn't really feel like the series I know and love. The violence, gore, and nudity were pushed to 11 and it didn't feel authentic to me. I figure it's because it's based on a video game? Idk. There were still elements I liked: the humor and the addition of some urban legends and previously unseen Fables. I'm glad I borrowed it. 😄

booksandcats13 I haven't read The Wolf Among Us graphic novels but I did play the game. I really enjoyed it. I'm sad this installment didn't work for you 🙁. 8y
SarahSaysRead I've played a few episodes of the game and really liked it. I have the first trade to read when I'm finally done with the game. 8y
alanacristin I agree with the based on a video game assessment. I love Fables! But i decided to pass on this after flipping through a few issues. 😢 8y

[DELETED] 2852984487 I loved the Fables graphic novel series. I was out of work, and feeling sorry for myself one weekday when I found myself in the library. I walked out with a dozen of the Fables graphic novel volumes. After hours of reading, I felt much better. 8y
Eyelit @bigdamnbookgeek I went in wanting to enjoy it (it's bonus Fables after all!)... but sadly it fell short of my expectations- and maybe they were too high to begin with 😆 8y
Eyelit @RStorey I found the Fables series by happenstance at the library too - I was hooked from the get go and it's def one of my all time faves. I'm glad it was a good experience for you in a down period. 8y
Eyelit @SarahSaysRead hope the trade is a good addition to the game! One of these days I'll need to check out the game myself 😄 8y
