Lowriders to the Center of the Earth
Lowriders to the Center of the Earth | Cathy Camper
8 posts | 12 read | 4 to read
The lovable trio from the acclaimed Lowriders in Space are back! Lupe Impala, Elirio Malaria, and El Chavo Octopus are living their dream at last. They're the proud owners of their very own garage. But when their beloved cat Genie goes missing, they need to do everything they can to find him. Little do they know the trail will lead them to the realm of Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the Underworld, who is keeping Genie prisoner! With cool Spanish phrases on every page, a glossary of terms, and an action-packed plot that sneaks in science as well as Aztec lore, Lowriders to the Center of the Earth is a linguistic and visual delight. Que suave!

@LibrarianRyan Your review reminded me that this has been on my TBR for a while, & since it‘s Día de los Muertos themed I borrowed a copy.
I didn‘t love this quite as much as the first, but it was still super fun & the artwork is out of this world! I definitely plan to continue with the series. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious #Spookoween2022 @TheSpineView #31by31 @Catsandbooks #PointsAThon @dieareader @GHABI4ROSES #20in4 @Andrew65

4 ⭐ Book two is just as much fun as book one. This time the team must travel to the center of the earth to save their cat. They must save the cat from the volcanos, the heat, a crying goddess, and a Mexican wrestler. It is all tied up with the day of the dead. This was such a fun book. I am glad they exist and that there are at least 2 more.

mrp27 This is such a fun series and what an interesting topic! I love learning about low rider car culture. 2y

5⭐️ Sorry for the dark picture- after being in bright hallways and most recently a noisy and bright 5th grade lunchroom, I need a little darker ambiance for my headache and sanity . 👩‍🏫🌌 Anyhoo, a really good sequel. Forgot to mention in the other post, but I like how they use Spanish in the text to go fluently with the rest of the dialogue !

This is a fictional comic book, Pura Belpre award winner and can be used in the classroom as SR, PR, IR. #UCFLAE3414SP18
A trio of friends set out on a mission to rescue their cat who is being kept prisoner in the realm of Mictlantecuhtli by an Aztec god of the underworld! With cool Spanish phrases on every page, a glossary of terms, and an action packed plot that sneaks science and Aztec lore this book proves to be a visual/linguistic delight!

Cruzdia1 A useful UDL strategy to implement with this book is 3.2: highlight patterns, critical feature, big ideas, and relationships. A ESOL strategy that can be used with this book is 24: Incorporate the culture and the language of second language learners in your curriculum. This is important to do for your students so that they see themselves and others who look like them represented positively in literature. (edited) 7y
Cruzdia1 In this article, you can find instructions on how to write, draw and publish your very own comic! Just like in the book! It‘s quick, it‘s easy and it‘s lots of fun. Children are sure to have fun with this new spin on writing! http://www.mykidsadventures.com/create-comic-strip-kids/ 7y

The sequel! Blurbed by Amy Sedaris. That's pretty much all you need to know.

I enjoyed this book, once I got into the story. The mixture of Spanish and English were awesome and I loved the artwork. Overall I did like the story, it just took me longer to get into than I like with graphic novels

CrowCAH It is beautiful art! 8y
