Tbh I will most likely read all the books recommended to me, but these are the 12 I‘ve absolutely committed to read this year. Thanks for the recommendations! I look forward to an interesting (looking at you out of left field bored gay werewolf) and challenging (looking at you Rilke) year. 😄 #12bookchallenge #12challenge

I actually couldn‘t put this book down for the life of me. I read this in a sitting and rated it 4.5 stars! A paranormal/true crime thriller that will have you hooked from the start! The illustrations were so well done and were the perfect addition to the creepy atmosphere of the story. Thanks to whoever recommended this to me for my #12bookchallenge! Book 121 of 2023 😊

The Sun Down Motel | Simone St. James

Pickpick

Part paranormal thriller, part true crime mystery and I was invested from the start! A spooky, haunted motel, and a serial killer on the loose made this the perfect read for the season. This is my first Simone St. James and not the last. I fell a little behind on my #12bookchallenge this year, but I‘m hoping to get a few more completed! 4.5/5

The Sentence | Louise Erdrich

Pickpick

When I first started this book I wasn‘t sure I was going to like it, the writing took some getting used to, and she surprised me with where she took the story. But halfway through I couldn‘t put it down! Louise covers a wide range of topics, specifically from 2020, and I‘m glad I waited until 2023 to read it. 3.5/5 stars #12bookchallenge

Strong start to my #12bookchallenge! Easily a 5 star book! ✨Murder mystery meets feminist revenge plot with a side of magic realism (my fave!) Absolutely loved it, loved the characters, loved the twists! Could see this being turned into a badass tv series, the dialogue was super witty and realistic.

Filled my #12BookChallenge! I‘m going to try to read one a month. Have you loved any of these?

Sargar114 I started out hating and after about 100 pages fell absolutely in love with 1y
Nessavamusic @Sargar114 good to know! 1y
Sargar114 @Nessavamusic Backman has a very unique style that can take getting used to. But now I‘ve read a couple by him and have loved them! 1y

5feet.of.fury I feel like we bonded over a hugely popular fantasy series so I would like to set you off on a good path with another series I like 1y

CBee @5feet.of.fury oh snap, I 100% agree with you on The Change!! Perfect choice! My recs below 😊 @BooksNBowls 1y
Librarybelle Thank you for asking me for a recommendation! ☺️ I was reminded of this one this morning…it‘s historical fiction, based on a true story, that is a slow burning novel rich in atmosphere and what I have described as lyrically beautiful: 1y
CBee @BooksNBowls both books have supernatural magic-y elements and I mean, one has dragons. Can‘t go wrong with dragons 🐉😊 1y
Librarybelle If you‘re looking for something a bit on the creepy side, this one fits that description perfectly - a realtor who does more than shows houses… 1y
Librarybelle And, honestly, anything by Simone St James. She does amazing supernatural stories, so the spooky factor is so good. Some are contemporary, some are historical. There are romantic elements, which romantic writing is not her strength, but I can overlook that for her compelling suspense. One of my favorites is this: 1y
CBee @Librarybelle love Simone! I‘ve read most of her books - I also loved 1y
Librarybelle @CBee That is one of the few I have yet to read by her! I own a copy…maybe next year I can get to it! 1y
CBee @Librarybelle hopefully! I hope you like it! 1y
sprainedbrain In an effort to recommend something you haven‘t already read, and because I‘m horrible at following directions, I‘m gonna give a few for your consideration. 😉 Alone With You in the Ether (Blake), The City We Became (Jemisin), Demon Copperhead (Kingsolver), and Funny You Should Ask (Sussman) were all 5 star reads for me. 1y
KristiAhlers The Sentence by Louise Erdrich was a total 5 ⭐️read for me. Also Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak. I loved Devil of Dublin by B B Easton as well. 1y
BooksNBowls @Librarybelle Burial Rites sounds super intriguing! And The Sun Down Motel has been on my list for a while so I think I‘ll pick one of those! Thanks so much! ❤️ 1y
BooksNBowls @CBee Oooh the Dragons one is calling to me! I looove dragons + bad ass women??? Sign me up!! 1y
BooksNBowls @sprainedbrain ooh yes thank you for the variety!! 😍 going to research these tonight and decide! 1y
BooksNBowls @KristiAhlers I‘ve heard lots of good things about Hidden Pictures! And The Sentence sounds really interesting though! Tough choice!! Might add them both! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1y
CBee @BooksNBowls you‘ll love it then 👏🏻👏🏻 1y
KateReadsYA Alright! Let me think.... Definitely the last book I read Master of Salt and Bones, WOW that was a wild ride haha! Also, castles in their bones was amazing as well and book 2 comes out in 2023! 💜 1y
Eggs I love riveting mysteries with a hint of supernatural or magical realism and so I agree with Simone St James recs - in the same genre also Sarah Addison Allen, Hillier, Alice Hoffman too. I read a lot of HF so I‘d suggest R. Sepetys, Kate Quinn, Fiona Davis, Kristin Hannah. Susan Meissner, Diane Chamberlain, Marie Benedict, Marius Gabriel, Beatriz Wms, and Melanie Benjamin. Thanks for including me❤️❤️ 1y
