My #weekendreading books very much like my #24in4 books
Backman feels like an author I shouldn‘t like but reading my second book of his proves that I really do. Strangers taken hostage at an apartment viewing by a failed bank robber get to know each other and find more than what they were looking for. A tear or two was shed. Guess I will be reading more Backman.
Excellent read. I felt that the title was a misnomer, as most characters weren‘t all that anxious. Great pacing and story-telling in a clever style that I found consistently entertaining and engaging. It‘s a book about people, their weaknesses and humanity, and the power of connecting with others.
This is one of my favourite authors. Another great read. This will have you laughing and crying and sometimes both at the same time.
Currently reading. Genuinely can't decide if it's charming or annoying.
I know I'm so late to this party but it was a fantastic one. This is my second novel by Backman and I enjoyed it even more than the first, totally worth all the hype.
Bank robbery turned into failed hostage and apartment's open house situation. I laughed out loud, then used some tissues to wipe out heavy tears, then laughed again, briefly, so representative for Backman's style!
what happens when a failure of a bank robber is forced into creating a hostage situation. this book went from making me laugh out loud to pondering some deep thoughts. overall, a gentle reminder that everyone is going through something you don‘t know about. almost everyone in this book is connected to someone else in some way and I spent the majority of the book confused and trying to figure it all out, but in a fun way. mostly.
This is just a lovely book. Embued with both a gentle melancholy and a quiet hopefulness that EM resonate, it also manages to be sharply insightful and funny, too. It‘s a story about a lot of things, but really it‘s about people, and the things we do to ourselves and to others. I wasn‘t sure I‘d like it from the description, but I really, really did.
I thought the characters, dialogue, narration, pacing - everything - was insufferably irritating. I wanted to like it but bailed. I‘m going to check out the Netflix series instead. You think choosing TV over book version will be a first for me, but I like the concept of the novel a lot…I just couldn‘t take the novel itself!
Feels Moment with Fredrick Backman ☺️

Ready to try this one out.
Love reading about people and emotions and relationships. This was a great read for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've found this to be a little cheesey at times, but mostly it was a sweet story, and gentle reminder how each and every one of us is dealing with our own demons, and that we're all just trying to do our very best. I've read this for my book club, and I'm looking forward to the discussion we'll be having next week. 📚📚📚
A painting of a woman standing on a balcony looking at a bridge plays a prominent part in this book. Although the story is far fetched, I did like how all the characters lives are connected in a satisfying ending. I have read a few of the author‘s other books, and this is consistent with his belief that there is good in all people. Short, quick moving chapters. Quirky characters. Ultimately, a love story.

you end up marrying the one you don‘t understand
Then you spend the rest of your life trying
Not knowing is a good place to start
we‘re more than the mistakes we made yesterday
we are all of our next choices, too
all of our tomorrows
the difference between how it feels to fly
and how it feels to fall
impossible to control
just like love
we do our best
We plant an apple tree today
even if we know the world is going to be destroyed tomorrow
My current pile of books! 😅🙈 I'm currently reading three of them, plus the tagged book in ebook form, one is finished, and others I'll hopefully get around reading soon! As you can tell, I'm all booked! 😅🙈📚📚
IRL Book Club pick for March.
Hanging out at another swim meet… today I brought two books!
Just started reading again and this was my latest choice!
I didn‘t not like it, but had to switch to audio, the fast conversations were hard to follow otherwise. But my goodness these people start out as just idiots, but it works out in the end and you see why.
Idiots. That‘s what this clever book is about. Written by the author of A Man Called Ove, this book is funny and will have you in stitches one minute while pondering deep thoughts the next.
Don‘t be a Stockholmer, read this one!
I can‘t say enough how much I love this book. I don‘t reread books but I can already tell you that I will reread this one. Probably many times. Every page was full of truths. It is sad, it is idiotic, and it is life. Wow. It‘s humorous in the right places. It‘s filled with understanding. And above all… it is everyone. Read it!

Top book of the month: In The Time Of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez
Least favourite book: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
I loved the limited series on Netflix so much that I had to read the book. However, I feel that I would have liked the book a little less had I read it before watching the series.

Some people accept that they will never be free of their anxiety, they just have to learn to carry it.
… because sometimes it‘s easier to live with your own anxieties if you know that no one else is happy, either.
“It‘s very easy to declare that other people are idiots, but only if you forget how idiotically difficult being human is.
i really tried to like this, but found myself struggling to get through it. nothing about book is very endearing - the characters, the writing, the pace - i could tell what backman was trying to accomplish - but it felt clumsy. i would give the author another try.
This was…fine. I very nearly bailed at the 60 page mark and texted my friend who loaned this to me “I hate everyone in this book and hope the bank robber shoots them all.” There were some funny bits but it was just too hokey and schmaltzy for me.
Nope! This is stressful!
Third book for #newyearwhodis @HOTPock3tt @monalyisha #NYWD22
We never really know what we do to each other, with each other, for each other.
The truth of course is that if people really were as happy as they look on the Internet, they wouldn‘t spend so much damn time on the Internet, because no one who‘s having a really good day spends half of it taking pictures of themselves. Anyone can nurture a myth about their life if they have enough manure, so if the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, that‘s probably because it‘s full of shit.
We give those we love nicknames, because love requires a word that belongs to us alone.
So it needs saying from the outset that it‘s always very easy to declare that other people are idiots, but only if you forget how idiotically difficult being human is.
I loved this book, but now there is a show on Netflix!!!
It is EPIC!!!!
All of your crazy, lovable and anxious people come to life in this series!
My hubby didn't read the book, but watched the show and loved it!!
Be sure to check it out today, you won't be disappointed!

Surprise, it‘s… romance? As predictable as the overall plot played through, this was a tale of love and choices, told like no other. I laughed, I cried, I felt things I was in no way prepared to feel on a quick, blind read.
And I‘d do it all over again.

Anxious people is almost a perfect match, but my copy of Season of Wonder is a little darker than the goodreads picture I used here. Maybe it‘s just dirty from being on my shelf for so long 😂

Delightful novel that is funny but also deeply moving. A bank robber screws up and ends up having to take a room full of people at an apartment viewing hostage. Backman show us how all of these folks, including the cops, are idiots, but so are we all — idiots doing our best and actually better than we might give ourselves credit for. Trigger warning: deals with suicide https://cannonballread.com/2022/01/anxious-people-a-novel-elcicco/
Most of September was a write off for me due to having COvID and didn‘t manage to read much, most books were listened to. Only read 6 and Anxious People would be my pick of #Septwmber. #12Booksof2021 #9thBookof2021
A notable mention for Sudden Prey by John Sandford, that ending!
This book is freaking INCREDIBLE!!! The narrative, the writing style is just so spectacular. Each characters story is heart warming. The book is funny and sad, you go through a Gambit of emotions. Can't recommend this enough!!!
Perfect start to the new year
After seeing @thewallflower0707 post that Netflix finally released the mini series of Fredrik Backman‘s book Anxious People, I immediately went to watch it! It was pretty faithful to the books (a few changes here or there but nothing that made me upset). I adored getting to see the characters come to life, with many laughs and tears! I highly recommend checking it out!!
