Tbh I will most likely read all the books recommended to me, but these are the 12 I‘ve absolutely committed to read this year. Thanks for the recommendations! I look forward to an interesting (looking at you out of left field bored gay werewolf) and challenging (looking at you Rilke) year. 😄 #12bookchallenge #12challenge
Thanks again @Soubhiville for encouragement

Cuilin Fabulous, 🍀 looking forward to your reviews. 10mo
Hooked_on_books Looks like you ended up with a great mix! I think this is a fun way to choose some books. 10mo
Soubhiville I hope you‘ll like them. Maybe be surprised by the ones you are uncertain about. 🙂 10mo

@Soubhiville did this last year and it looked like fun so I‘m joining in this year. I‘ll take 6 recs from here and 6 from other socials. I can‘t guarantee consistency (may read a couple a month, may read one a month and then forget until end of year and scramble lol) but I will read all 12. So let the recs come in! What book have you loved that you think I should read this year - fiction and nonfiction alike - all recs welcome. 😃 #12challenge

Soubhiville Have you read this yet? If not OMG, one of my best of 23. 11mo
Eyelit @Soubhiville yes! So Good! I was almost tempted to get the special edition aardvark released this month, but ultimately decided against it 😁 11mo
Deblovestoread Our Fathers or The View on the Way Down by Rebecca Wait. Both excellent. 11mo

I had fun doing the #twelvechallenge in 2023. I got recommendations from 12 friends and read one each month. I don‘t remember who brought this over to Litsy from Insta, and I‘m not completely sure that‘s where it originated… but I read a bunch of books I wouldn‘t otherwise have found. I might do this one again this year.

My favorites were The Sentence, The Mercies, and The Diamond Eye.

Thank you to all who suggested books!

Soubhiville Looking back it seems the graphic was created by @wanderinglynn last year, but others I don‘t follow brought the challenge over in previous years. 11mo
Tamra Glad you liked The Sentence! 11mo
wanderinglynn Awesome! 🎉 11mo

#WrapUp #2023

There are a lot of ❌s up there, but I‘m not unhappy with my reading year.
I learned I still read a lot without setting a goal.
I started 14 series, but finished/caught up with 10 so I feel that is a success.

I didn‘t complete the rest of my challenges, but they were still fun.

To all who picked a book for me for the #12challenge, I fell off the wagon mid-year. I still plan to read your recommendations though. Thank you!

Reggie You did amazing! 11mo
Bookzombie @Reggie Thanks, my friend. I hope you have a wonderful New Year‘s Eve and that 2024 is the best. 💕 11mo

Bailedbailed

This was the final book for my #12challenge- 12 friends, 12 books, 12 months. It‘s been a great challenge, I discovered some books I wouldn‘t have otherwise.

Unfortunately this one didn‘t work for me. I have tried one other by this author and I couldn‘t finish that one either. It‘s partly because I was listening to the audio while flying, which was too distracting I think, and I got pretty confused about what was happening and gave up. 🤷‍♀️

Soubhiville Thanks for the recommendation though Lynn! Another time I might have liked it better. 12mo
vonnie862 Oh no. I have this book. 12mo
wanderinglynn Yes, I can see where this would be confusing on audio. There were a few times I had to flip back. I definitely recommend trying it in print. @vonnie862 12mo

I really like Kate Quinn‘s historical fiction. This was a different point of view of a WWII story, and I love that the author‘s note explains how much of this comes from the true story and where she embellished.

My aunt Pauline recommended this to me for my 12books12friends12months challenge, and I liked it a lot.

BennettBookworm Oh how cool! First off, I love Kate Quinn! But also, I‘ve never heard of that challenge- is it where you get a rec from one friend per month? 12mo
Soubhiville @BennettBookworm yes, in January I asked my friends and family via FB for recommendations, then the four spots I had open I filled with Litsy friend‘s recs. Then read one per month. It‘s been fun, I‘ve read a lot of books I wouldn‘t have picked otherwise. 12mo
Soubhiville I‘ve seen it tagged as #12challenge, #12friends12books12months, #12books. I believe it started on insta and someone brought it here. @BennettBookworm 12mo
BennettBookworm That‘s such a great idea, thanks for sharing! 12mo

The Duke Undone | Joanna Lowell

Pickpick

I‘m trying to balance spooky and sweet reads this month so I can sleep 😆.

This romance was recommended to me for #12challenge- 12 books, 12 friends, 12 months.

I don‘t read much romance, but I thought this was pretty good. Lots of spice.

Lucy is a seamstress and an art student. She stumbles upon a passed out drunk and naked man in an alleyway and paints his figure into a mythical work. Turns out he‘s a Duke, and a rather naughty one.

I read this based on the recommendation of my friend Sherry for the #12Challenge.

Its a time travel mystery with a contemporary timeline and one in the early 1700‘s. It was light and fun if somewhat predictable. I liked the little town it was set in and the minor characters, and the antique shop set up was fun.

I doubt I would have picked it up without the recommendation, so I‘m glad the challenge brought it into my TBR.

CatLass007 I must have seen a review of this on Goodreads. It‘s already on my Audible wish list. This and 5,791 other titles. 🙀 1y
Soubhiville @CatLass007 I know that feeling! I don‘t use audible but my Libby to-read stack is huge. The audio was good. 1y

Mehso-so

My May #12Challenge book was The Poisoner‘s Handbook. It‘s nonfiction about toxic substances through modern history that have been used in murders and accidental deaths.

I felt there was too much chemical breakdown for my head to absorb, I guess a lighter version might have been better for me. Still, it was interesting, and touched on such things as arsenic, lead, radium, and Ethel and Methol alcohols.

@peanutnine Thank you for suggesting this book! I loved it so much. I don‘t know when I started crying but it continued on and off through the end. All of it just seem to hit perfectly for me. Florence and Benji‘s chemistry, the family, the funeral home, and the grief. #12Challenge

**Yes, I‘m still wearing my Christmas PJ pants even though I finished this on April 29. 🤷🏼‍♀️

peanutnine I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I thought it was the perfect combination of sad and hopeful ☺️ 2y
Bookzombie @peanutnine It was! ☺️ 2y
