4th book. Book starts out with a corpse found in the driver's seat of a cab. Other bodies which have been dug up are also being found. An act of blackmail also leads to murder and Thomas Pitt is beside himself trying to find out what is going on. Aunt Vespasian makes a 2nd appearance and tries to help Charlotte and Thomas with this baffling mystery. We get another look at Victorian social life and the child labor laws. Great read from Anne Perry.

DGRachel I really enjoyed the early books in this series. 6y
EadieB @DGRachel How far did you get? 6y

EadieB @DGRachel That‘s pretty far as of 2018 there are 33 in the series. Are you going read any more? 6y
DGRachel Honestly, probably not. I stopped because the plot lines became consistently annoying and I wasn‘t enjoying them anymore. I was tempted by the blurb on the latest one, but I don‘t know. My TBR is already longer than I can get through in my lifetime. 😂 6y
EadieB @DGRachel I can understand that if you weren‘t enjoying them anymore. Too many good books out there TBR. 6y
TrishB @DGRachel I feel most series start to hit a plateau between 15-20 books!! 6y
EadieB @TrishB I would have to agree and when the plots start to go bad then I feel it‘s time for the author to move on. 6y
DGRachel @TrishB I agree. A lot of series seem to fizzle out around there, either becoming repetitive or just generally losing quality. I wonder if I tried to get back into this one, if I would feel differently about the plots now or if I would be just as annoyed. I always appreciate authors who can keep long running series feeling fresh and exciting. 6y
TrishB @EadieB @DGRachel worst for this was the Scarpetta series - Cornwell- went embarrassingly down hill like a bad soap opera! 6y
EadieB @TrishaB Never read that series because I heard only the beginning of the series was good. 6y
DGRachel @TrishB I think I only read the first couple of them back when the series first started. I can‘t remember why I quit, but I don‘t think I read more than the first two or three. 6y

Paragon Walk | Anne Perry

Pickpick

3rd book in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series written by Anne Perry. The setting is London 1880's and a young woman has been raped and murdered on Paragon Walk. Tom, Charlotte and her sister, Emily, help to solve the crime. Anne Perry shows us the difference between the lower class and the quirks of the Victorian society expertly. Her books are quick easy reads and are a very interesting time period to read about.

EmG I haven't read one of these in years I need to go back to them. Maybe for next reading marathon. 6y
EadieB @EmG I have a biography of Anne Perry which I want to read. She killed her mother when she was younger and it‘s an interesting story. There was a movie made too called Heavenly Creatures. Her books are good to read between the longer books. (edited) 6y
brokenpoet The film is ..weird.. but I found the book really interesting 6y
EadieB @brokenpoet I think it‘s interesting how after prison she changed her name and started writing and her publisher didn‘t know her history until the film came out. 6y
brokenpoet @EadieB - agree - also the insight into how a murderer might be feeling at the point of committing 6y

Another #suspenseful #murdermystery from #anneperry! The murder of nurse Barrymore brought Monk, Rathbone, Latterly, and Daviot working together to find the murderer. 4 bodies but only 3 graves were disinterred. Hence, a #murdermystery begins. This is the best story so far in this #Pittseries. Lots of twists with a good plot. However, I do find the ending was kind of abrupt with still some loose ends. Overall, still a quick #goodread. #fiction #booknerdigan #anneperry #victorianera #19thcentury #bibliophage #readforlife #read150 #gratefulforlibrary #readanythingandeverything #alwaysbereading #calgarylibrary

Mehso-so

I always enjoy #Victorian #murdermystery and #AnnePerry never fails to deliver. But this book was only so-so as I felt it was short and hence kind of rush. Overall, I still enjoyed it.
