Saw this #musical today with my husband. 💕After about a 100 pages I bailed on the book because it was too dark, but I absolutely loved #Wicked the musical! It left me very intrigued and I may have to give the book another chance 🤞🏼#WickedWitchoftheWest #WICKED #Cincinnati #AronoffCenter 🎭🎼

Karkar From what I have heard is the book is very dark compared to the play. Will be interested to see what you think when you pick it back up. 7y
Melissa_J Loved the book and the play (I've seen it three times in three different cities). I thought the play did a good job bringing the book to life, and don't think one is darker than the other @Karkar 7y
Jess7 @Melissa_J perhaps the book gets drastically lighter but I can tell you the first 100 pages I read were very, very dark. Homosexual puppets were having sex for no apparent reason. It describes Elphaba as a baby who tries to eat her mother and the description of that is pretty dark I thought. The musical didn't go into any of that. 7y

BethM I've read the series and seen the play twice. The adore the series but I would also classify it as pretty dark through the whole thing. Play is much lighter and softens or changes a few plot points. 7y
Pamwurtzler @jess7- from what I remember about that book, it stays dark. The musical was much more fun! 7y
Aleida I loved the book and when I heard they were making a musical of all things, I couldn't grasp the concept. But the musical was so well done. 7y
Smarkies I loved the musical. The book was a bit hard to get through for me though I did finish it. 7y
Melissa_J @Jess7 funny the things we forget in books! I don't remember the puppets, although I do remember the description of Elphaba as a baby, I wouldn't say it was dark though (but that's just me, and I can see why others would think so. It's quite a political book in some of the themes it conveys. My thoughts on the book, however, are probably influenced by the play since I read the book first and watched the play after, so it's more memorable. 7y
Chelsibeau Awww i just saw this for the first time in June in Boston and it was so good. I don't want to read the book because I like the play too much. I don't want it to darken or change how I think about it. The music is the best bough! 7y
LiteraryinPA I hated the book but loved the musical. 7y
CrowCAH LOVE the musical! I should have bailed on the book, but I didn't; it's dark and different than the musical. 7y
Bellajo I've always wanted to see the musicals! 7y

tapgurl The musical was incredible. Bailed on the book it was horrible. Crazy! 7y
Reggie The book was profound to me in my 20's. Yes, I totally felt I had to wade through MacGuire's writing, but it was so worth it. 7y
MinDea I loved this musical! 7y
