The Cybernetic Tea Shop | Meredith Katz

Pickpick

Gorgeous little sapphic (?) romance novella featuring an ace heroine and a robot who runs a tea shop. Examinations of SFnal AI personhood, ethics, nurture, and autonomy.

And I'm done! Nine graphic novels, nine text novels/novellas, and a poetry book.

Very beautifully written, and very dark. The teen angst/love got a little repetitive and annoying, but overall enjoyed it a lot.

These books have summer vibes, the characters having their adventures out in the sun ☀️

Let's Talk About Love | Claire Kann

Mehso-so

This was a bit of a disappointment. I have read Kann before and really like her book Romantic Agenda, but this time around I was just annoyed with most of the characters. Our MC felt super juvenile - she is in college but I am reading an actual YA of boys set in HS and they are acting more mature than this.
I thought everyone around her was awful including her best friends & love interest which is always a bummer
Overall this just wasn't for me.

Friday #Pride book recs!

Ace and Intersex books are not very common. Here are three each I recommend.

Ace = A-sexual this is such a scale! Angela Chen's nonfiction book Ace helped me so much to understand that range. I really recommend it.

**I originally added a book that after more research (I read it years ago before I knew better) appears to be harmful. This is an updated graphic.

ChaoticMissAdventures Curious about an asexual romance? It felt like 2 separate ideas that could never meet but this adorable romance changed my mind. Good for people who like love triangles, fake dating tropes, and character who just respect each other. 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures If you have not read River Solomon what are you waiting for?? This one is fantastic. Aster is Ace, they are also a mechanic on a space ship. The universe that Solomon has created is large, detailed, and creative, and the characters are interesting to follow. 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures Sci-Fi/Fantasy Queen Le Guin this is about a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants spend most of their time without a gender. Called a groundbreaking book for both sci-fi and for intersex stories. Well worth everyone's time. 3w

ChaoticMissAdventures This is a classic for intersex novels. It has been a long time since I have read it, but the vibe and the heart of the story and the family vividly have stuck with me. Please be aware this is an older book so may contain some outdated ideas or language. Still worth the read. 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures I struggled to find intersex books I have read. so I am adding one that I plan to read this month. This one has great ratings on GR and I am excited to get into it. I have read a few articles about the author and they sound lovely. 3w
TieDyeDude Thanks for sharing! My wife and I are both ace, and I love discovering books with ace characters. I tend to avoid romance novels because they don't speak to my experience, but I might consider Kann's book 😉 (edited) 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures @TieDyeDude I am not a big romance person either, I am trying another by Kann this month, there are not a ton of Ace books out there! 3w
willaful @TieDyeDude A surprising number of romance authors and readers are ace! But of course there are many different types of ace experience. Have you read any John Wiswell? 3w
Kitta Ooh thanks. I was looking for some recommendations related to this! 3w

Narration was top notch!

This one was giving “The Wicker King” vibes, and I liked Ancrums more. Fans of this book definitely should check it out.

A heartbreaking story!

I‘ve got my May #Roll100 ready to go! So far I‘ve been finishing one of my picks each month, which will probably continue to be the case. @PuddleJumper

Leftover dandan for breakfast, alongside the next Dreamhealers novel. I think I‘m just gonna punch through to the end of this series now. It‘s nice to have sustained time with the characters instead of wondering when I‘ll get to see them again. The individual books are expensive and they‘ve never gone on sale the whole time I‘ve had them on my wishlist, maybe because of their inclusion in subscription services.

I made the trip over to the far railway station this morning so I could visit Chenonceau, which was lovely! I spent a good hour tromping around the grounds before I even went into the chateau, and I had a lunch & book break in a whimsical garden dedicated to landscape architect Russell Page, with sculptures by François Xavier Lalanne.

I finished DREAMHEARTH when I got home, and it was another lovely read from Hogarth. Such great characters.
