Shamed is the 11th book in the Kate Burkholder Series by Linda Castillo. The small town of Planters Mill, Ohio, is shocked when an Amish grandmother is brutally murdered. Kate Burkholder is the Chief of Police and comes upon the scene. Not only is the grandmother killed, but her special needs granddaughter is missing. Burkholder is not being told the truth by the Bishop or family. Will Burkholder get to the truth before it's too late?⬇️

Castillo has grown Kate Burkholder so
during these 11 books, though she still takes chances. I enjoy learning a little bit about the Amish as I read these books. All of the characters have developed, and Castillo has not lightened the suspense any. If you enjoy Police Procedural books, then you ought to give the Kate Burkholder Series a try.

Ooooh boy (as I fan myself). Not for the faint of heart, this one pushes all the boundaries. This one is dark, steamy, snarky, spicy, funny, sexy. Great on #audio but beware listening in public. Did I mention it is hot?

This had a great early twist that had me gasping! Also loved the #audio narration by Joanne Frogatt (Downton Abbey) and others. If you like a twisty thriller with great interpersonal relationships, this is for you!

Fantastic non fiction about spies and counter intelligence from the UK and Russia during the cold war. Interesting and fast paced, I didn‘t want to stop listening. I will be thinking about this piece of history for a long time-I never would have imagined that crisps and nap pies could play such a key role in espionage. Highly recommended on #audio.

Finished this audio yesterday. I liked it better than the first one. Anne Boleyn is on her way to execution and Henry VIII has his eyes on Jane Seymour. This was shorter than Wolf Hall.

This was powerful, sad, and upsetting but I‘m so glad I read it. Hearing Eve Ensler‘s perspectives on the world, war, and the environment while she shares her backstory and cancer journey makes for a memoir unlike any I‘ve read. I was angry at times at the sheer horror that is the world but then was also lifted up by the ways we show up for each other. This is pretty short but still manages to pack a punch. I enjoyed on #audio, read by the author.

So behind on book reviews! I finished this one awhile back, sweet, funny and set in Austin, where I live, so that is always fun. A librarian who likes her quiet life makes a deal (fake relationship, anyone?) with an exuberant gubernatorial candidate and sparks fly. Great on #audio , a nice escape from the pit of despair that is Texas politics right now.

Julsmarshall I failed to mention that allusions to where I work, the largest state library association in the country, feature prominently and scenes are set at a large library conference. Made it even more fun! (edited) 2mo
KathyWheeler @Julsmarshall You might have sold this to me with the library association and conference references. 😊 Those are two things I miss since I retired. 2mo

Wow! What an expansive, heartbreaking, informative, and thoughtful story. Immersing you in the story of a young nurse who goes to Vietnam to honor her brother and serve her country, it explores what veterans of this terrible war went through overseas and when they returned home. The unique POV of an army nurse was powerful and while it is tough to get through, I‘m so thankful to have read it. Amazing on #audio by Julia Whelan. Highly recommend!

Quirky and fascinating, I love experiencing the natural world through Sy Montgomery‘s eyes. This love letter to our most common avian friends was funny and interesting, made me smile, laugh, and think. Short too, about 2 hours on #audio and read by the author.

ncsufoxes My oldest child would probably love this one. He loves birds (wildlife biologist major). At his university they have chicken that are free to roam on the campus. The university even has an instagram account for the chickens. 3mo
kspenmoll My neighbors raise chickens & they hobble about my yard fertilizing it( we do not use anything on our lawn in terms of fertilizer, weed killer, etc. It‘s a neighborhood thing). I will definitely suggest this to them! Thx! 3mo
