Here‘s my March recap. It was a great reading month & I finished 23 books! (Including 5 audiobooks, 19 fiction, 4 NF, many genres, several children‘s & classics)

I read for #SundayBuddyRead #NancyDrewBR #BobWhiteBuddies #EBBR #AuthorAMonth #ChildrensClassicRead2025 #SheSaid #RiseUpReads #JaneAustenThenAndNow #BookedInTime #FoodAndLit #Roll100 #ThematicCozies #FictionalTraveler #MonthlyNonFiction #SeriesLove2025 & #AuldLangSpine #SeriesLove2025 ⬇️

DebinHawaii …My favorites of the month were The Frozen River, Nettle and Bone, Kills Well With Others, Not That Bad, All Systems Read & Pride and Prejudice (reread for the zillionth time) & The Great Gatsby (hadn‘t read since high school) was a surprise winner. Lots of series books too—including both the 1940 & 1976 versions of our monthly Nancy Drew title. (edited) 7d

A fair amount of reading was done in March. While many books are in the 3-star range, I did really enjoy The Odyssey (read over two months). I finished ny #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin, read a couple of books for #192025, read two books set in big cities for #FictionalTraveler, a couple of #1001Books, and I even got a Bingo.

This one, stories set in Hawaii, is my pick for #FictionalTraveler April #Island & it‘s one of my April #Roll100 picks (#24 Any stories or essays ).

It‘s good incentive since it‘s been in my TBR since I bought a signed copy from a local book store when it was released.

#Island
@julieclair

I hope this counts. I'll be finishing the second half of this book with the #ShardlakeBR, and I'll be on The British Isles, in England, particularly at Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight for the Battle of the Solent. 🇬🇧

julieclair Totally works! England is definitely an island. 😆 1w

I‘m really looking forward to traveling to the glorious fictional island of Tuga for #FictionalTraveler this month! What will everyone else be reading for the #Island prompt?

BarbaraBB I think some Japanese fiction again since I haven‘t found any unread ‘real‘ island books. 2w

Pickpick

#Read2025

So in high school I absolutely did not like The Great Gatsby & thus over the years never picked up more Fitzgerald, content in my dislike. We had two #SundayBuddyRead books that put the author in a more favorable, sympathetic light & I decided it was time to go back again & reread TGG after a (cough) few decades of life 😉 & picked it as my #FictionalTraveler March pick for #BigCity. Surprise! I quite enjoyed the book this time. ⬇️

DebinHawaii … I suppose I‘ll attribute it to being more open-minded about morally ambiguous characters like Gatsby, understanding wanting something/someone so badly, &/or just being more appreciative of well-written prose, but it was not at all a chore to read & at the end of the day, I think it‘s a great book. (I still despise Tom & Daisy mind you). And something interesting to me now is when Tom is describing their honeymoon & Daisy loving him, he says, ⬇️ (edited) 2w
DebinHawaii … “Not at Kapiolani?” & “Not that day I carried you down from the Punch Bowl to keep your shoes dry?” So I am now convinced that Tom & Daisy‘s 3-month South Seas honeymoon trip included Oahu & Hawaii. Again, probably just interesting to me. Anyway, I am pleased with adult me for having grown & will probably try more Fitzgerald in the future! 😉 2w

AmyG Books read differently when you are an adult. 2w
LeahBergen There are so many books I appreciate more with some ‘age‘ behind me. 😆 2w

dabbe I always wondered why this book was taught in American literature. I didn't appreciate it as a 16-year-old at all. As an adult, though ... wowza! I found that playing the audio of Tim Robbins reading it to my juniors really helped them to understand it better. The power of audio didn't really exist back in 1982 when I was a junior. 🤣 2w
julieclair Great review… and you make me want to reread Gatsby with an adult perspective. Stacked. 2w
