When the Tides Held the Moon | Venessa Vida Kelley

I love when a book surprises you in the best way. This was wonderful story of finding family in an unexpected place and finding love with the impossible. There author did a great job of using a historical setting to add emphasis to the story. Also, the illustrations throughout were beautiful (drawn by the author).

This is my first book by this author and I wasn‘t sure what to expect, but the creepiness was off the charts. It was a slow burn at the beginning but then it took a really dark turn!

It's Paloma's first trip to Mexico City, home of her long-deceased father, and she doesn't want to be there.

Until she meets new friends, is intrigued by Frida Kahlo, and finds there is a mystery to be solved.

Last Wicked Words for the month! #WickedWords @AsYouWish
And Spanish-Speaking country for @julieclair #FictionalTraveler
Also a GORGEOUS cover.

Another cool read by Claudia Piñeiro! This one is about feminism, flies and fumigation and I loved it even though I figured out the twist early one. I loved the characters and their dialogues. The plot is great and a real pageturner. I absolutely continue reading Piñeiro‘s backlist now!

Thanks for sending me this one Trish, you were right that I would love it ?

I've seen the movie many years ago, so I knew what was to come.
But even knowing the big twist, I still found this very enticing and entertaining. All the subtle foreshadowing throughout the book, the tiny details one would miss on a first read.
All done masterfully.

Not a bad #BookSpinBingo month. I finished the tagged for #FoodandLit, #Rwanda. The Book Censor's Library was my #DoubleSpin and also fits #OffMyShelf - #InvolvesBooks; The Colour and Dance on the Volcano were for #192025; Indigenous Pacific Islander anthology worked for #FictionalTraveler and was my #BookSpin. There are a couple of #1001Books, and several for a global reading project.

Most importantly, I have two bingos!

Suet624 Nice! 3w
Ruthiella Bingo! 🤩 3w
