I'm so glad I took my own advice and got the Audiobook for the second installment of D.O.D.O
This felt like a totally different book from the first. All the characters I came to care for were either not there at all, or pushed aside so much that they became inconsequential.
I didn't like the new character, and it felt like we only ever travelled to one place - one I didn't care for.
And the ending was such a disappointment I can't even...

julesG It's been years since I read it. I enjoyed it, but probably because at that point it had also been years since I read DODO. I also missed characters. 8h
TheAromaofBooks I was SO disappointed in this book. 8h

Pickpick

Packed with adventure! Set during the French and Indian War, the book contains some pretty brutal scenes. I appreciated that one of the main characters was a strong female, especially for a book written in 1826. But the writing also reflects attitudes towards women and Native Americans that were prevalent at that time. Seen as a period piece, the storytelling is excellent, with a strong sense of time and place. ⬇️

julieclair I enjoyed reading this for #KindredSpirits with @BarbaraJean . 2mo
BarbaraJean It was so interesting to see the combination of “of-the-time” stereotypes with some more nuanced depictions of Native culture than I‘d have expected, plus a fairly strong female protagonist (even though I felt like Cora‘s characterization weakened as the book went on). I hated the ending, though!! (edited) 2mo
julieclair @BarbaraJean I agree about the ending. 2mo
