Circe | Madeline Miller

I need to talk about Circe. It‘s beautifully written, without a doubt. But at 60% I‘m struggling a bit. I like Greek Mythology & I‘m familiar with the stories, but I quickly realized that I had to be in the mood for the topic to even pick Circe up. To quit such a well-written book seems totally wrong, but I‘m a little bored.#circe #botm

MeganAnn I felt the same way. It‘s beautifully written, but I never felt a strong urge to keep reading or to pick it up again once I put it down. It took forever to finish it and the ending didn‘t change my opinion of the book in any way. If you aren‘t feeling it, move on... or put it aside and come back at a later date when your mood fits. If you know a bit about the mythology, I feel like you could pick it up again months later and not be lost.🤷‍♀️ 1mo
mrsthilkey That stinks, sounds like it just wasn't the right time. That happens to me occasionally, and I will save it for a later time. 1mo
LazyLibrary @MeganAnn glad to hear it‘s not just me. I think I am going to quit for now! 1mo
LazyLibrary @mrsthilkey I‘m thinking that‘s what happened, but not sure if there will ever be a right time 😂 but it got best book of 2018 for botm! I felt left out! 1mo

I really enjoyed this book and am glad I listened to it despite of some of the bad reviews I saw beforehand. To me it was so much more than an island witch waiting for guys to sleep with. I loved listening to her transformation and the ending was perfect for me. And I highly recommend the audiobook because the narrator blew me away! I must find out what else she has narrated bc I could listen to her every day of my life. #circe #audiobook #library

I am a huge fan of Greek mythology. And the story of the Odyssey is one of my favorites. That being said, it was fascinating to read about Odysseus and some of the other characters from a completely fresh, new and interesting perspective. She makes classical literature fun. She makes adventure stories relatable, poignant and memorable. I will definitely pick up anything she writes. #recentlyread #nospoilers #mythology #CIRCE #yessss ❤️😊🎉

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I‘m only a few chapters in and it‘s so captivating. The characters are on my mind long after I‘ve closed the book.
It‘s my second book by her, the first was Circe, another Greek mythology retelling. I absolutely adore Greek Mythology, always have so I can already tell I‘ll be eating this book up just like I ate Circe up. #thesongofachilles #greekmythology #mythology #greek #retelling #achilles #circe

So much praise for Circe and I genuinely believe it's based from Songs of Achilles. Circe is a badass witch, and I didn't get much of that. I lost count on how many times she or someone called her a fool. I didn't see growth in her until 360pg! It was disappointing, and wondered why did Miller decided to write about her after Achilles. Another reminder that not every book is for everyone. #bookreview #circe

#myopinion: I feel like I've been trying to read this book for a long a time. Well finally I'm about 80% done, so I thought I give my opinion on what I've read so far. To me, it starts off a bit slow, then it picks up, and then it dips back down again. Circe is well written, but overall the story is boring. I'd give it a 3/5..

Have you ever had a hard time getting into a book that's popular? My book club is reading Circe, and I can't get through the first chapter 😬 but I'm trying ... #sundayreading #weekendreads #circe #books #reading
