Mehso-so

TW: SA. This rating is hard because Rachel Jeffs went through actual hell as Warren Jeffs daughter. But, at moments I was disappointed in her word choice. For example, she mentions “underage sex” a few times, but that makes me think of two minors having consensual sex. The word she should use is rape, and I think she only uses it once when reading charges brought against her father. I also found her voice difficult to listen to so I sped it up.

A good story about the five children who survived a cult, four of whom have spent 15 years trying to make sense of it. Chapters from the past and chapters from the present culminate in the discovery of what really happened all those years ago. I had to suspend my sense of disbelief to get to the end of this one. A soft pick as the characters didn‘t really resonate with me, yet the mystery kept my attention.

Reggie I‘m glad you made it through. I‘m always intrigued when people move to a commune and it always starts off perfect and idyllic and then it turns. I felt bad for those survivors because they felt left behind and lost. Glad you gave it a try. 3w

4.1⭐️ and to complete out my October reads, I am with this creepy little short story. I have read Joe Hill before and I didn‘t get the creep vibes from his full length features as I did from this 54 page book. I am still shaking off the heebie-jeebies. Was I terrified… No. Did it make me question sounds… 100%! Fun way to end the month!

Ending the month with the tagged as this week‘s choice. Remote Sympathy is my favorite book this month.

Bailing too soon to make a "formal" review. I only got about 40 pages in. The language of olden times feels incredibly forced And the dark cult like vibes with abused children just isn't something I can stomach at this time. I cannot remember why I bought this but I am clearing it from my shelf.

Taking a mental health day. I had a bit of a crash out yesterday, you know those days were it stats getting out of the house late then getting stuck behind a school bus picking up kids, and then it snowballs? Everyone has them. I also had some bad health news I haven't processed I am lucky to have a job where I can take off with no excuses. So mental health day it is.
Cleaning house, exercising, reading the tagged and just getting back to okay.

Bookwormjillk Good for you. We all need them from time to time. 1mo

mcctrish Im sorry about your health news but so glad you could do a reset day 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Bookwormjillk @CoffeeAndABook @DrSabrinaMoldenReads yes! I love a good mental health day, and it is misunderstood, for me it isn't about pampering myself, is is about cleaning, and moving my body and doing things that will feel good tomorrow! I think a lot of people miss that part of it.

ChaoticMissAdventures @BarbaraBB @Ruthiella @dabbe @squirrelbrain @mcctrish thanks! I have a really great team assembled behind me so things will be okay, All this aging stuff is the pits, I didn't think mid 40s would bring so much drama! Medications, exercise, healthy eating and a good attitude I guess is what we can all do. Here is people's reminders to get scans and biopsies as often as you can! 1mo

Five survivors of a cult (all other members mysteriously) are trying to live their lives as if all of that didn‘t happen. When one of them commits suicide however, they know they have to face their past. Should they return to Red Peak for answers?
A pageturner! Thanks for the recommendation @Reggie

Reggie I like the fall leaves in the background. I‘m glad you liked it. I thought he wrote music experiences pretty well like when that guy was having those cathartic moments during his concerts. 2mo

Had to read some King for #SpookySzn.

I‘d never read this before or seen the film all the way through. As a kid, I lumped it in with ‘Leprechaun‘ or ‘Nightmare on Elm Street‘ - gory camp that at the right time of day was unsettling. Reading this now as an adult, it‘s much more upsetting than I gave it credit for.
