What. Did. I. Just. Read??? I'm not really even sure what to say about this book. What a crazy, crazy ride. I needed more of a conclusion though. I felt the author left her audience hanging and wondering what happened. Really reminded me of The Strain with a mix of The Walls Around Us. If you enjoy creepy, gruesome, and suspenseful books this one would be for you.

I was rereading this since I habe to teach it. I remember reading in German the first time. For me it is still one of the “modern” classics, even though my students think it‘s boring. They don‘t realize we are on the brick of a scenario like the one described in Lord of the Flies.

BookNAround My three kids all hated this one when they read it for high school. I, on the other hand, read it in 8th grade and loved it. I fully intended to reread it when they did but my stomach churned and I could see Piggy‘s glasses in the pink foaming surf just opening the first page so I didn‘t. But I think it‘s a masterful book and I don‘t understand why they disliked it so much. 5y
Powered_By_Plants @booknaround @MariaW I just finished listening to this on audible and the poor voice of piggy with his asthma being led half blind to his end it was a painful to listen to. Can‘t say I enjoyed it but as you say it‘s masterful and iconic 💕 5y
MariaW @BookNAround Fortunately, we read in 10th grade, so the students are able to grasp some of the concepts. But I see their point as well, I reread most of the “school” literature as an adult and it was a totally different thing. 5y
MariaW @Powered_By_Plants Oh myyy, don‘t tell more, I already got goosebumps from reading your comment. 😱 5y

I did not enjoy this book it was a very slow read and didn‘t move very far. It is about this kid named Jonathan and he goes to prison and it goes from there. I didn‘t read the whole thing because it didn‘t intrigue me to read anymore.

This book is very interesting and is something students will relate to. It is a tale about misfits and outcasts and many students will relate to this.

Scar Island is about a group of boys sent to a reformatory school on an island. There is a freak accident and they are suddenly free on an island trying to work together and survive.
