Themes: Espionage Thriller, Russian spies, CIA, Family

About halfway through this book I started thinking, “this is a good, not great read”, but now having finished it I realized you have to be in the right headspace for this book. There are a lot of characters, multiple POVs and storylines - it wasn‘t an easy/breezy read. BUT, if you can keep everyone and the stories straight, it‘s a clever and thrilling read 👍

jlhammar Good to know! Looking forward to it. 3mo
Aims42 @jlhammar I ran out of room in my review, if there‘s a sequel I‘d be totally up for it 👍 (edited) 3mo

The last book in a perfect series. And what a perfect ending. In this story we see all the lessons from the previous 4 books, courage, self-sacrifice, responsibility, and leadership, come together to complete this beloved hero‘s arch. I hope the many other readers of this book, no matter their age, enjoys these books as much as I did. They are most certainly stories I hope to read to my children someday. #52challenge

These are such amazing books! This story shows our hero now as an adult and learning to be a good role model. It teaches the valuable lesson of passing on wisdom and the lessons we‘ve learned to others who are following in our footsteps. #52challenge

Again, I love these books! This one was especially interesting as it addresses the topic of grief and mental illness/confusion in a way that children can understand and learn to sympathize with those who suffer from such heartache. It also teaches responsibility and the hardships but also rewards of growing up to be someone who protects others. #52challenge

As I said about the first book, I cannot say enough about this series. Amazing story for all ages and great for a family to read together. This is by far the darkest plot of all 5 books and even made me scared of the villain at times but not is a way that would cause nightmares for children. This book teaches the importance of good vs. evil and how doing what is right and protecting those we love sometimes requires self sacrifice. #52challeng

At first I thought this was more a book needed in order to introduce us to characters bound to become part of a long running spy series. That still may be true, but I was invested in the outcome of this 1980s/current day thriller. I liked that Amanda‘s story was not entwined in a romance (may happen if there‘s a book 2) because sometimes I just need a romance break.

Ruthiella I also like it when there is no “obligatory” romance angle in a mystery/thriller. Sometimes they can feel a little shoehorned in. 5mo
marleed @Ruthiella Yea, I‘m all about a romance, but sometimes I just need a break! 5mo

This is my first spy thriller and I learned it‘s not my jam. While the story is detailed and well written, I found it somewhat anti-climatic. I guess I‘m used to too many psychotic twists as I predicted a lot of the book.
