I don't know if this #novel has the #mostgruesomecrimescene, but it might be the most horrifying to a bookworm. It takes place in a #building and involves more than one #family. #maylovesclassics #litsyclassicshost #oldcoolbooks #catchingup

ReadZenRites Love that cover with the old mansion! 6y
Linsy Lovely! I‘ve never read it, but it‘s now on my TBR! I just watched the Stars adaptation and LOVED it! 👏 6y
batsy Oooh! Great pick. 6y
rubyslippersreads @Linsy I don't have Starz, but I ❤️ the Emma Thompson movie. 6y

I just read this P.D. James quote and I think it fits quite nicely with today‘s photo challenge prompt.

Anyone reading this in the challenge please look away now as the post contains spoilers - a nice boating trip on the seine becomes a murder scene and horrified 19th century french readers.

readingjedi Oh, I love this book! It's just so utterly horrid ( in the best way!) 7y

'It was droning like a harmonium with the flies and bluebottles, and the floor and walls were like a slaughter-house. [...] Right through his broad breast a steel harpoon had been driven, and it had sunk deep into the wood of the wall behind him. He was pinned like a beetle on a card.'
The Adventure of Black Peter: #mostGruesomeCrimeScene for a Sherlock Holmes story maybe?

PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 The german one I posted, this Penguin, the Bering-Gould Annotated Sherlock Holmes, the Leslie Klinger Annotated Novels (only just arrived, not read yet), and the rest of the Klinger should arrive in a few weeks. 7y
PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 plus the ebooks, and plenty of pastiches and a few non-fiction. 7y
Sarah83 Leslie Klinger? Is this the three parted edition? 7y

I‘ve already used In Cold Blood for this challenge so this is my second choice and it‘s been a while since I‘ve read it but I‘m pretty sure it‘s got a #mostgruesomecrimescene or thereabouts!! #maylovesclassics #litsyclassics

Cathythoughts 👍🏻👍🏻 7y

Act III, scene VII. I'd say eye gouging is pretty gruesome.

The Holocaust was one enormous #mostgruesomecrimescene 😢💔. I read these two when they first came out; graphic novels were still a very new format then. Now the Maus books are considered classics in this format, as they should be. #Maylovesclassics
