Into Thin Air | Jon Krakauer
Mehso-so

This was a very harrowing story that makes you doubt the sanity of anyone who summits Everest. The story was well written, but a little bit rambly at times switching between 1996 and previous expeditions, at times this was lightly annoying because I wanted to hear more about what happened in 1996, but I understand that a lot of context needed to be set so that the layman (like me) could understand mountaineering terms.

While this was an ok book about mountain climbing and had some good historical information. I found it a bit tedious and was very disappointed that there wasn‘t on single abominable snow man in the whole book. I think I just went into it expecting something different. I like Simmons as an author and know that he likes to be very detailed, but the book didn‘t live up to the description on the back cover

#WednesdayWanderings @AllDebooks @jenniferw88 @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

1. My favorite literary walks (hikes) are the tagged book as well as Wild by Cheryl Strayed
2. The terrain is vastly different looking but the feelings of solitude and loneliness seem similar. I feel inspired by the discipline and focus it takes to accomplish individual physical and mental challenges. #litsolace #midsummersolace

AllDebooks I really enjoyed both those books 5mo

Took 25 books to this “take one, leave one” book trolley at the mall, and found this one! For once it went this way, but very satisfied 🙂

Pickpick

I love books about people in extreme conditions. This book sounded great. The beginning 1/3, when they were preparing for the trip to Everest, was a little boring. It goes into detail on the preparations and the history of mountain climbing. The rest of the book, once they actually make it to Everest, was amazing. The story was interesting and moved a lot faster. I enjoyed reading this.

Pickpick

Sarah Lotz has scared me off of planes and cruise ships and now we can add cave exploring and Mt Everest climbing. Simon, eager to get some hits for his fledgling adrenaline website, decides to go explore a forbidden cave with an unstable older guide. The guide does not come back. Simon does, with more than he bargained for. The first part of the book in these caves had my windpipe choking me while reading what was going on. It was harrowing. 👇🏼

Reggie Desperate for more clicks his partner sends him to climb Mt. Everest. There are so many layers to not only the settings but the different characters in here, and I think Sarah did a great job integrating them all into a solid, good story. There‘s a video on YouTube where a guide takes her cave exploring to do research for this book and oof…I could not do it. Pick! 9mo

Reggie @BkClubCare @sarahbarnes those first 50 pages were the summit of this book. It was crazy. 9mo
Reggie @vivastory I‘m gonna have to order that one. Just so I can be a Lotz completist. My libraries don‘t have it. 9mo
Reggie @Suet624 there is a lot about the 3rd who always walks with you in here. But I thought it was great. And the sections about MtEverest and the trials and tribulations were great. 9mo

So I'm now working in the kids department at work and I'm reading various series in order to help make recommendations. This one was really very informative and gives a very good description of what this mountain is, the history of climbers and is frank without being overwhelming about the dangers. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Texreader I love kids books like these as great introductions to topics 10mo
