#12BooksOf2025

August was another month full of great books: The Weeding People, King of Ashes, A Witch‘s Guide to Magical InnKeeping, The Compound… The one I still think about is Tilt, read for #CampLitsy Having grown up in Southwest Portland, the setting made it even more compelling.

TheEllieMo Second time I‘ve seen this come up today, obviously popular 7h

I don‘t think you can be an Oregonian and not be aware that the “big one” is coming. This is an excellent debut. Knowing the locations enhanced this read for me.

@TheEllieMo

A lovely, charming Christmas story. Vera is awakened one day by the next door neighbor child scared because her mother is very sick. After taking the mother to the hospital, Vera becomes friends with Fiona as she babysits her. They decide to do a quilt for mom as she is healing. A group of four strangers comes to help Vera and they work their way through difficulties and become close friends as they finish the quilt.

A sweet and charming story about second chances, found family, and taking a stand. It‘s not quite what I expected, but it was a lovely book to read this time of year.

#MyLitsyAwards

Some thoughts:

Honourable mention to #camplitsy Tilt for best bookclub read.

Beyond the Wall has a really eclectic queer kinda punk biker gang crew I‘d love to spend time with 😂 Read for #lgbtqia2025

Can‘t wait for the next #Murderbot.

Loved the SA Crosby and excited to read more. Ditto for TJ Klune which was a #QueerBC pick (I think).

Heartstopper is so different to my usual reads but it‘s sooo good. Highly recommended.

CSeydel These are great! 😍 2w
Suet624 Love this. 2w

Kitta @PuddleJumper I thought it was even better than 2w
Kitta @PuddleJumper have you read The Space? Beyond the Wall is definitely a sequel and relies on information in the first one. The Space was good but the second was great. At least for me. 😆 I can imagine some people wouldn‘t enjoy it. 2w
PuddleJumper @Kitta I've got the series on my list. I couldn't remember which one was first 😅 2w

I forgot to actually post a review in my haste to reach out to @Reggie because I was busting to talk about it with someone! This book touched me in so many ways. I loved the way Annie and an IKEA worker were there for each other navigating the catastrophe even though they had clashed at the beginning. The school scene was devastating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An emotional journey across the tilted city of Portland after an earthquake. Very pregnant and stressed, Annie is trying to reach her husband. 4/5⭐️

We follow a very pregnant woman during a single day as she tries to survive in Portland, Ore. after a massive earthquake hits. She crib shopping in IKEA when it hits and spends the rest of the book trying to find her husband and get home. The chapters in the present work better than the flashbacks explaining their tepid relationship, but it kept me interested through out. I felt like I was with her, aching feet, unquenchable thirst, & desperation.

mcctrish It was crazy awesome how intense this writing was and I totally agree that I too felt like I was in that character 2mo
SamAnne Oof. And I know where they IKEA is. Probably nowhere close to her house! 2mo
