In the early 1800s the Sioux settled the prairies of southwest Minnesota and and southeast South Dakota, and quarried the red rock (still do to this day). George Catlin wrote about and painted portraits that depicted the life of the native plains tribes, shown above on a 1960s booklet. This is where I grew up.
