Pickpick

A slowly unfolding mystery with a strong female lead character. A sprinkle of romance, some interesting bad guys, with wolves and dogs and a touch of the supernatural. Enjoyable read, although the first 1/3 of the book feels like Koontz swallowed a thesaurus. The MC lives remotely and I believe he was trying to set that scene, but it was more distracting than helpful. Still recommended, and know the last 2/3s is more normal.

This story sucks you in quickly and spits you out at the end of the wild ride. The characters are distinctly different, and their backstories are well defined. I guessed a few things and thought I figured out more but was turned around a few times and surprised till the very end.

The best part of picking my grandson up from school every day is getting in some reading time while I wait for school to let out.

Just a bit bonkers. I don‘t think it could decide whether it was a supernatural horror or an everyday thriller 🤷‍♀️
As an aside- people who buy those big posh houses in the south in the US, do they really just casually say ‘the slave quarters‘ when they remodel them into something else? (E.g a home office). Because this MC did, a lot. I found it very creepy.

Ruthiella Gosh, I hope not… 4d
Suet624 Ummm…. Not that I know of but I haven‘t lived in the south in decades. 4d
sarahbarnes My hope is that the answer is no, but clearly anything is possible here. 4d

Pickpick

17-year-old Persephone (Persey) struggles to live up to her perfect older brother, so when she is the first player to solve a supposedly unsolvable escape room & is invited to take part in the ultimate competition to win millions of dollars, she hesitantly accepts. 8 contestants are flown to Las Vegas to take part in the contest, & tension is high with the prize money at stake. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf When the competition starts it becomes clear that this is no ordinary escape room, but one with life or death consequences.

For me, this was the best book of the three. I love books set around escape rooms & this was a belter. I'm not gonna say any more than that as it's a read you don't want the merest hint of a spoiler for. 4.5🌟

Solid mystery/thriller that had a few surprises in there even if most of it was somewhat easy to predict. Once I realized what was happening the rest easily fell into place. I still enjoyed the ride, mind you, and thought the challenges faced by the main character were really inventive. Enjoyable read! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

It was a perfect weekend to start a Readathon. I needed an unplug and reset, so started and finished both of these. Both 5 🌟. Spent about 6 hours reading and it was so lovely. I'd have to count chapters, but probably went over the 36. Thanks for hosting, @MatchlessMarie and Happy (early) Birthday 🎂 🥳 #36by36readathon
